How to Make Your Hair Wavy and Romantic

Your guide to instant and romantic waves.

Sometimes you just want a sultry and sexy wavy hairstyle other than the fun and playful look of beach waves. However, getting that sexy look isn’t as easy as spritzing some sea salt spray, scrunching your locks and letting hair dry on its own. Romantic-looking wavy hairstyles involve just a tad bit of extra work—totally worth every second, though—and the help of a curling iron (for a more retro version) or hair wand (for something more natural-looking). But this shouldn’t deter you from achieving the hairstyle you’ve sought after! It’s fairly simple to do, and the end result is beyond charming. Whether you’re preparing for a fancy event or just want to try a new look, here are simple steps on how to make your hair wavy with a romantic feel.

How to Make Your Hair Wavy and Romantic in Two Ways

Glam, wavy hair.

Romantic Hair Waves Using a Curling Iron

Step 1: Prep hair

On dry hair, prep your hair with a heat protectant like TRESemmé Platinum Strength Heat Spray and then apply a holding product like TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Foaming Mousse to provide a long-lasting shape to your sexy waves. Following this, divide hair into two workable sections, clipping the front section away and starting with the back of your hair.

Step 2: Curl and pin curl

Begin curling a subsection of hair with a curling iron and curl towards your face. For each curl, allow the ringlet to fall into the middle of your palm and wrap it back up with your fingers like a pin curl, and place a bobby pin or duckbill clip to hold it in place. This will allow your waves to set. Continue this method throughout your hair.

Step 3: Brush hair for the big reveal

After your hair is curled and placed into pin curls and has had enough time to set (five to 10 minutes), release all curls then gently brush with a paddle brush to smooth your waves.

Step 4: Finish off with a serum

We like TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Keratin Infusing Serum to smooth your waves and add polish for a sexy and shiny touch. Set hair with a holding spray like TRESemmé TRES Two Extra Hold Hairspray to give your hair flexible hold.

Romantic Hair Waves Using a Curling Wand

Step 1: Prep hair

On dry hair, prep hair with a heat protectant, like the TRESemmé Platinum Strength Heat Spray and then apply a holding product like TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Foaming Mousseto provide a long-lasting shape. Following this, divide hair into two workable sections, starting with either the front or back of your hair. With the curling wand, you’re just going to work on curling the length of your hair for a more natural set of romantic looking waves.

Step 2: Curl with curling wand

Holding the curling wand downward (the skinnier part should be facing down), take a vertical section of hair closest to your face and wrap the hair ends around the wand and away from the face. Continue doing this with every section.

Step 3: Tousle and separate

After your entire head is curled and left alone so it has had enough time to set (five to 10 minutes), use your fingers to tousle and gently separate the curls.

Step 4: Set it and forget it

Set hair with Suave Professionals Flexible Control Finishing Hairspray to give your hair flexible hold, grip and control without the stickiness.
