Is SheaMoisture vegan?

We are a Cruelty-Free company and do not do any animal testing. We use natural and organic ingredients in our products. Our Coconut & Hibiscus Collection contains Silk Protein. Our Tahitian Noni & Monoi Smooth and Repair Collection contains Keratin, which is derived from Wool (sheep). Our Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil Collection, Manuka Honey & Yogurt Collection and Women’s Shave Honey & Black Seed Collection both contain Honey. Currently, we do not have a list of products that do or do not contain a certain ingredient. We do have a list of what animal by-products are used in some of our products. Here is a list of those ingredients that are derived from animals. Please use this list to see if the product you are interested in is vegan or not: Beeswax, Collagen, Conchiolin Protein, Honey, Keratin, Lactose, Lanolin, Milk, Pearl Protein, Silk, Yogurt.

Does SheaMoisture have silicones?

SheaMoisture hair care products don’t contain common silicones, Dimethicone or Cyclomethicone. Some of our hair care products contain protein derivatized silicone, which has dual functionality—it increases moisture while providing reinforcement to the cuticle for strengthening properties.

Is SheaMoisture organic?

Our products are made with natural and certified organic ingredients. However, each product is not yet certified organic. We will keep our community posted as our products are approved through the certification process.

Why do your products no longer say "gluten-free?"

Because “Gluten-Free” has taken on such a specific meaning in the food industry, the beauty industry has finally caught up with that and it means something now. In order to be gluten-free as a hair product, you would need to manufacture in a gluten-free facility with gluten-free certified ingredients. This product contains no ingredients that contain wheat, barley, or other gluten-containing ingredients.

The removal of the expiration date from our packaging is not the result of any change in the formulation of our products; rather it is out of recognition that such dates do not signal the end to the efficacy of our products. The products are fine to use after the expiration date and we are actually removing those dates from our products because such dates do not signal the end to the efficacy of our products.
