Soft Hair Twists Dominate at Marissa Webb SS17

Miriam Herst | 09 September 2016

Soft and elegant ruffles take the cake at the Marissa Webb show.

We just returned from reporting backstage at the Marissa Webb show and just loved seeing the hair trends that were all about romantic and soft hair twists. Almost every piece on the runway at Marissa Webb’s presentation at New York Fashion Week included cascading ruffles that moved effortlessly down the models’ arms, sat cinched around their waists, lined their shoulders, or were stitched in layers along the hemlines of their skirts. The only detail as elegant as the beautiful flowing fabrics? The soft hair twists worn by every model in the show.

Ranging from tight and sleekly secured twists turned knots to messy and bohemian teased low ponytails, every style included one form of twist or another as an understated yet unapologetically direct complement to Webb’s soft ruffled designs. The secret to achieving this wearable look? Strategic bobby pin placement while creating the style and the right combination of products. Read on for details on how to recreate this stunning hairstyle, including some key products from TRESemmé.

Soft Hair Twists: Get the Look

Every style begins and ends with the right combination of products. TRESemmé Stylist Jeanie Syfu and her team created soft hair twists by drawing the middle or side parts in the models’ hair and then focused on one side of the head at a time. Combing the hair down towards the ears, they began the twist at the models’ temples and added hair as they descended towards the back of the head. After repeating the same method on the other side, they completed the look either in a low ponytail or a loose knot.

During the process, they utilized some of the TRESemmé Tres Two Extra Firm Control Mousse to ensure ample volume in the models’ hair and later finished off with TRESemmé Tres Two Extra Hold Hairspray for lock in the style. Between hair, makeup, manicures, pedicures, and donning the designs themselves, the models require maximum strength and hold in their styles to last from their time backstage through the runway.

The key to maintaining the structure and integrity of the twist as you work your way to the back of the head? Bobby pins. When lightly placed at the top of the soft hair twist, they lend an extra hand as you focus on the rest of the style. Once all styling has been completed, you can slide the bobby pins down against the head for added security. A little teasing through the hairs that frame your face and a light mist of hairspray prepares you for the runway — or an every day look.

Once completed we were amazed at how stunning these hairstyles were as they graced the runaway in Marissa Webb’s gorgeous collection- definitely a beautiful pairing that we can’t wait to see more of.
