Gym hair, bed-head, or party hair. Whatever you want to call it, messy hair is in for all!
As we entered the backstage area for Rag & Bone Men’s and Women’s Spring/Summer 2017 show for New York Fashion Week, the vibe just felt super relaxed and very chill: Models hanging around with club-inspired messy hair, cracking jokes and being their normal selves—kind of like unwinding after a really long day at a low-key club or lounge. The ambiance made perfect sense, as Orlando Pita TRESemmé‘s lead stylist explained, “For this show, we’re making it a little more day-after looking, as if they’ve been clubbing.”
Orlando Pita On Perfecting the Messy Hair Look for Rag & Bone Spring/Summer 2017
All Things Hair: Hi Orlando! Can you explain a little more about the “post-party” messy hair looks for Rag & Bone’s Men’s & Women’s SS 2017 Collection?
Orlando Pita: The inspiration for this collection is to keep everyone individual; we’re kind of accentuating everyone’s individuality. We have some models with naturally curly hair, some with dreadlocks and shags—we’re keeping that! We’re making it a little more day-after looking.
All Things Hair: Wow, we love a second-day look! What are some of the products you use to embrace and enhance texture to achieve this mussed-up look?
OP: We’re using the TRESemmé Botanique Damage Recovery Oil Elixir and sea salt spray. That’s the important thing: We want it to look like a hairdresser has not been here.
All Things Hair: Seems like a super easy look to recreate at home. Any tips for perfecting the look?
OP: [Apply] TRESemmé Fresh Start Basic Care Dry Shampoo to soak up excess oil, and I suggest that you have a second mirror so you can look at the back of your hair to see what happened while you were “sleeping overnight.” It’s good to have the “I just woke up like this” look, but it still has to be the right look!
