Tip: Go horizontal with the iron.
Earlier, we reported that the easy wavy hair at Rebecca Minkoff‘s “See Now, Buy Now” collection was a product of her re-envisioning a travel-chic aesthetic. Jeanie Syfu, TRESemmé Lead Stylist for the show, recreated soft yet structured curls that followed an “S-wave” pattern on models’ hair as part of the “gypsetters” theme. The look, which meant to capture a woman’s style that gradually evolves as she picks things up along her travels, put the focus on horizontal as opposed to vertical beachy waves.
Read on for a quick breakdown of how to get the look:
Get the Look: Easy Wavy Hair Backstage at Rebecca Minkoff
Step 1: Work with damp hair.
Mist hair with some water to prep it for product, then apply TRESemmé Perfectly (un)Done Wave Creation Sea Foam. Work the product in from the bottom up—from nape to roots—and brush through with a wide-toothed comb to ensure it is evenly distributed.
Step 2: Blowdry hair.
Using a flat brush, blowdry hair to infuse some structure into the strands before curling. Jeanie’s tip: Foundation is key to this look holding its shape, so make sure hair is brushed carefully and thoroughly as you blowdry.
Step 3: Curl horizontally.
Once hair has been properly blown out, separate your locks into even sections. Using a 1 1/4″ curling iron, curl each section around the barrel horizontally in an outward motion (and not twirling it around vertically). This results in a soft S-shaped wave, similar to the natural bend you get with rich-girl hair, but with more definition.
Step 4: Brush out the curls and finish with hairspray.
Carefully brush out the curls so they align seamlessly. Finish your easy wavy hair with an even-handed coat of hairspray such as TRESemmé TRES Two Extra Hold Hairspray to lock the style in place. Note: You can extend and refresh the airiness of the look with some dry shampoo, such as TRESemmé Fresh Start Volumizing Dry Shampoo.
