How to Shampoo Your Hair The Right Way

Finally, the right way to use the poo!

Truth be told: Nothing baffles any of us more than to find out one of our most basic methods for washing hair has been done the wrong way all along. What if we told you that you may be using your shampoo the wrong way? You wouldn’t believe us right? Yeah we thought so, too.

No, shampooing your hair isn’t rocket science. Yes, you’re really washing and rinsing. But, the repeat step may not be needed and the formula you’re using is probably not the right one for your hair. Yikes! Want to learn how to really shampoo your hair once and for all? Check out what you need to know below:

How to Really Shampoo Your Hair

1.Use the right shampoo for your hair texture and hair concerns.

If you’ve been overdoing it with gels, hairsprays, mousse and oils, a clarifying shampoo (like Suave Essentials Daily Clarifying Shampoo) may be the solution for you. Your traditional shampoo won’t give your hair that squeaky clean feeling. On the other hand, make sure you’re using the right shampoo for your hair texture using our informative guide.

Before applying shampoo to your roots, rinse hair with water first to open up the cuticle.

2. Know when to end the wash, rinse, repeat cycle.

If you didn’t know any better, the cycle probably would never end. One round of shampooing is enough, if you feel your hair still feels dirty you can go back and lather up again. But, honestly, you only need one round. Over shampooing can strip your hair of its natural oils leaving it dry and parched.

3. Shampoo should be applied to your roots.

That’s right, not directly to your hair. First massage and lather up the shampoo at the root (the key is to focus on your scalp) using the pads of your fingers and not your nails. Your fingernails (although it feels like it gets the job done) might bruise your scalp. As you rinse your hair, the shampoo will make its way down the lengths of your hair, cleansing your strands along the way.

4. Take advantage of dry shampoo.

Dry shampoo can help you save time and help preserve your hair color. Oftentimes many of us feel our hair is dirty when all it really needs is to be refreshed with dry shampoo. Our current favorite for extending the life of our blowouts is the Dove Refresh + Care Volume & Fullness Dry Shampoo.
