How to Straighten Natural Hair With a Blow-Dryer

Every natural-haired girl should have these easy-to-cop techniques up her sleeve.

How to straighten natural hair: blowdryer edition is a styling technique every natural-haired girl should know. Even if straightening hair isn’t your thing, this technique is still worth knowing. You never know when you’ll be itching to finally try out that sleek, straight hairstyle or that fluffy blowout once and for all. Here, we’ve explained how to straighten natural hair at home in just a few simple steps.

Straighten Natural Hair with a Blow-Dryer in 4 Steps

Step 1: Wash and condition hair.

Wash your hair with Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion Smoothing Shampoo followed by Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion Smoothing Conditioner to create smooth and manageable hair before blowdrying.

Step 2: Apply a heat protectant.

To benefit from long-term conditioning before your next hair wash and to protect hair from heat, apply a leave-in conditioner that also serves as a heat guard. Apply Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion Heat Defense Leave-in Conditioner throughout your hair then use a wide-tooth comb to detangle and work product through your hair.

Step 3: Separate hair into sections.

Part hair into four workable sections and clip away. Starting from the back hold the ends taut with your hand and use a blowdryer with a concentration nozzle attached to blow-dry hair. Position the nozzle downward, blowdrying your hair from the root to the ends. Continue this method for each section until hair is completely dry. Alternatively, you can use a round brush or a blowdryer with a comb attachment to help you blow-dry your hair. If you choose to use the brush opt for one with nylon bristles as the brushes that are made of metal bristles heat up and may cause damage to your hair.

Step 4: Style hair and complete.

Comb or brush hair the way you want it to be styled. We love the boar bristle brush for this last step as it helps smoothen the hair and distribute the natural hair oils. Add some shine with a drop of Emerge Glow Off Oil Serum.
