Are you looking for runway-worthy curls that you can create at home? Tired of spending hours in front of the mirror experimenting with an army of heated styling tools? Then you’re in luck, as headband curls may the answer to all your hair woes.

Not quite sure what headband curls are or how the use of a simple headband can help you create stunning curls? Fret not, as we have all the hair inspiration you will need, plus a handful of handy tips and tricks, just below:

Why Headband Curls Need to Be on Your Radar

1. You can create boho waves with little fuss.

Get effortless boho waves without heat.

If you’re a lover of bohemian waves, but can never quite master that carefree, easy-breezy finish (that we all know actually entails a lot more work than it looks), then headband curls are the easiest way to achieve them.

2. The style emphasizes naturally wavy hair.

If you have naturally wavy hair but want to add more of an emphasis to your curls, headband curls are set to be your new BFF! They’ll help amp up your natural texture and give you that beautiful beachy vibe all year around.

Also, if you want to create a defined curl pattern, we suggest creating even smaller sections in your hair and twisting each of the sections before threading through the headband.

3. Headband curls add texture to limp hair.

If your naturally fine hair is looking limp and flat, it’s easy to overload with sea salt spray and a wrap it around a curling wand (don’t worry, we’re guilty of it, too).

However, we say ditch those heated styling tools for headband curls and before you know it, you will have flawless-looking waves that will bring a new lease to your tresses.

Ed’s Tip: If you want to add soft waves, as opposed to medium to tight curls, you can do this in the morning before you start your makeup and unwrap your hair before leaving the house. Talk about multitasking!

How to Create Headband Curls

1

Start with damp hair.

Starting with damp or freshly washed hair, apply a small amount of Bed Head by TIGI Foxy Curls Mousse to the mid-lengths and ends of your hair.

This will help lock in the shape of your curls. Comb through the hair if needed to remove any knots.

2

Add a headband.

Place a stretchy headband on top of your hair (almost like a crown) ensuring the hair lies flat at the crown.

As the hairband will stay on all night, make sure it’s not too loose. It needs to stay in place in order for the curls to form.

Start weaving.

Divide your hair into manageable sections and, piece by piece, loop the hair over and under the hairband. Repeat this looping process for each strand until all the hair is wrapped around the headband and the ends are tucked in.

Work front to back.

Once the top layer of your hair is securely wrapped around the headband, use the same technique for any remaining hair.

Catch Some Beauty Sleep

The easiest part of this tutorial? Heading to bed! Make sure there are no loose strands and pin any shorter sections of hair up into the headband if you need to.

Then, get some beauty sleep and let your curls form overnight.

Unravel and comb through.

In the morning, your hair should be completely air dry. Gently remove the headband and let your curls fall loose.

Use your fingers to comb through the wave, this will give the hair a more relaxed finish.

Spray to secure.

Happy with your loose curls? Lock the style in place by misting the Dove Style+Care Flexible Hold Hairspray all over the hair from front to back.
