How to Create the Mid-Crown Braid
Refresh your hair.
Wash or refresh your hair before you start. For second or third day hair, we like the Dove Refresh + Care Invigorating Dry Shampoo, a lightweight formula that works to absorb the oil in your hair. If you’re down to for a wash and condition, try the TRESemmé Beauty-Full Volume Pre-Wash Conditioner followed by the TRESemmé Beauty-Full Volume Shampoo for some added bounce. Conditioner before shampoo?! It’s the secret to smooth strands without weighing down your freshly washed hair.
Create your part.
Use a comb to create a deep side part in your hair. Place the comb towards where you normally would part your hair. Move the rest of your hair aside as your comb moves it way down your hair. This will add dimension to your style. Plus, a sharp hairline will give this look an polished feel.
Create your first braid.
Start an inch back from the front of your hairline and take a two-inch section from your hair for your first braid. Separate that section into three pieces and begin the criss cross braided pattern. For an extra thick braid, cross your strands underneath instead of over.
Continue braiding.
Continue braiding to the ends of your strands, making sure to pull tightly as you go.
Secure and pull the braid apart.
Finish off the braid with a hair tie and gently pull the sections of the plait apart, creating the appearance of a thicker braid. Repeat steps two to four on the other side of your part.
Tease away.
Tease the crown of your hair for some added volume. This step will take your simple braids to the next level.
Secure braids together.
Use pins to secure the two braid towards the back of your head and a spritz of hairspray to hold it all together. The Suave Professionals Luxe Style Infusion Plump Hold Hairspray will provide grip and added volume.
