D.I.Y. Beginners: Here’s a Quick and Easy Curly Braided Updo to Try

Easier than getting those coveted dinner reservations!

Feeling a little stir-crazy from the quarantine? Don’t stress! We’ve got a new hairstyle for you to try if you’re in need of some inspiration or are finally trying your hand at creating new looks while you #stayathome. No worries: This easy curly braided updo is the perfect style to try, not only because it’s a quick and easy look, but the finished product will make you feel stylish and inspired to get stuff done around the house in case you’re one to go into full productivity mode. Sometimes step one to feeling your best (or at least shaking oneself out of that slump) is making the effort to look the part, and this updo can certainly help in that area!

We love ourselves a fun yet easy hairstyle, and this curly braided updo, which is an upgraded version of a regular top knot, is right up our (lazy-girl) alley. It’s a flirty take on a classic, and a fun little challenge if you’re trying to up your hairstyling skills. Read on to see how to nail the hairstyle and rock a new look around the house for a much-needed change of style and pace:

1

Start with Clean Hair

Unless you’re into rocking second-day hair on your big date (equally awesome too, btw), we like fashioning an updo with strands that have some grip. Washing hair can help rid your locks of buildup and sebum, two things that can contribute to stringiness and limpness. We like the non-stripped feel we get from TRESemmé Purify & Replenish Shampoo and Conditioner. Rinse well, then towel-dry.

3

Moisturize Your Ends

Smooth down the ends of your hair with some Nexxus Clean & Pure Nourishing Detox 5-in-1 Invisible Hair Oil to keep them from splaying out.

5

Start a French braid.

Grip the hair from your hairline/fringe section, and begin a French braid from your partline outwards.

7

Gather hair into a high pony.

Incorporate the rest of your hair into your grip and gather all your strands into a high ponytail. You can adjust the height of your pony as you like, or as your neckline allows. Ed’s tip: We love a high ponytail for higher necklines and a nape-hugging pony for deeper cuts.

9

Finish with hairspray.

A well-meaning spritz of hairspray, such as TRESemmé Volume Thickening Spray, helps seal in the look and keeps your hairstyle protected against any sudden winter winds. You’re done!
