How to Balayage at Home

Follow along to learn how to balayage at home without regretting the results:
1. Detangle your hair.
Start by detangling your hair by gently combing your strands. Start at the bottom and slowly work your way up until your hair is completely detangled and smooth. This will ensure even application when it comes time to start coloring your strands.
2. Separate and section your hair.
Use a comb to section off your hair into four sections, and use clips to tie each section up. You’ll work on one section at a time and keep the other sections clipped up so they don’t dip into the bleach accidentally.
3. Mix the hair dye.
Wait until right before you are ready to start coloring your hair to mix the hair dye. Follow the instructions on the box and thoroughly mix the dye until it’s ready to be applied.

4. Tease and paint your hair.
Use a comb to tease the roots of each section of hair. This will ensure that the lines of color aren’t too stark! Use a brush to carefully paint the hair on the lower half of each section. Use your fingers to smudge the dye at the halfway point to blend the dye in and ensure a smooth blend.
5. Rinse, shampoo, and style.
Once your hair has all been dyed and you’ve waited the recommended amount of time, thoroughly rinse your hair. Use shampoo to cleanse your strands and ensure that all dye is removed. Carefully wring out your hair, blow dry, and style away!
