This Twisted Ponytail is the Overlooked Feminist Statement of NYFW AW20

Toe the line with this classic with a twist.

Feminism is the freedom to wear any combination of traditionally feminine and masculine styles and the autonomy to skip the blending altogether and opt for one extreme or the other. TRESemmé NYFW Stylist Odile Gilbert created a twisted ponytail for Jason Wu FW 2020 that blends both elements into a strong and tough but still elegant finished style. “We created a look that incorporates a lot of control, but also shows movement in the front,” Gilbert says. “The look is clean and proper, but with a feminine touch.” Read on to learn how to create this strong and feminine twisted ponytail in four easy steps:

twisted ponytail braid brown hair
Balance classically feminine and masculine elements.

Step 1: Prep your hair.

Start off by prepping your hair with TRESemmé TRES TWO Extra Hold Mousse all over your freshly washed hair. This will give your strands some muscle memory and ensure that whatever styling you do next stays put.

Step 2: Start styling.

Use a comb to create a deep side part and brush your hair back into the base of your twisted ponytail.

Step 3: Secure your strands.

Secure your ponytail as ear level and use TRESemmé Compressed Micro Mist 4: Extend Hairspray to lock in the look.

Step 4: Braid and finish!

Create a three-strand braid that extends from the top of the ponytail to the end and secure it with a hair tie. Finish your twisted ponytail with a mist of TRESemmé TRES TWO Extra Hold Hairspray.
