If a bouncy blowout is the OG, then this sleek ponytail is its sophisticated, confident cousin. Exuding elegance no matter the occasion, a silky “pony” is the epitome of chicness and a go-to hairstyle that can elevate your look every time.

As much as a sleek high ponytail is a statement of its own, its simplicity and structure will help you showcase your best features, so make sure to pay attention to all the details for a truly classy look.

If you’re asking yourself how to do a sleek ponytail in minutes, we’ve got you covered! First you will need a smoothing serum is key to create a silky, straight finish so go for lighter formulas with tons of benefits, like frizz control.

Perfect for office meetings to nights out (and even when your mane is having an early morning existential crisis), this is the style your hair dreams are made of – we promise this isn’t your average ponytail, my friend.

Creating a Stylish Sleek Ponytail

1

Prep your hair.

Starting with your hair slightly damp, apply a product like Suave Simply Styled Anti-Frizz Smoothing Serum to prep and smooth out. What we love about it? Its light-as-a-feather texture locks in moisture (the TLC our mid-ends need!) as well as providing frizz protection –something important when creating a sleek ponytail!

Comb throughly.

As we’re aiming for a smooth, tangle-free canvas, take a wide tooth comb to gently get rid of any knots from bottom to roots. Hair is as its weakest when wet, so by comb it out this way, it will be less prone to breakage and frizz.

Blow dry straight.

For a straight finish, you might want to use either a paddle brush or a large round one and blow dry all over with downward motions. The more you do it, the more you’ll be getting that glossy look we want to have in a high, sleek ponytail!

Brush your hair back.

Time for the masterpiece! To start building your ‘do, brush your hair back to smooth out any lumps, and hold it up until you find the right placement – we suggest a ponytail right in the middle of your head, but you can also go higher if your mane is long enough.

Secure it.

Once your high ponytail is perfectly in place, gather the hair up and tie it with an elastic. Make sure you’re pulling it firmly, so there’s no looseness around.

Finishing touches.

To smooth it out some more, apply a light serum – like Suave Simply Styled Anti-Frizz Smoothing Serum — to the sides, top and bottom of your head, always using downward or upward movements in direction to the base of your ponytail. This product will add a beautiful, natural sheen, not to mention it will help you to fight against the frizz throughout the day.

Kiss flyaways goodbye!

If you’ve got flyaways around your hairline, take a small comb (a toothbrush or clean mascara wand can do wonders here, too!) and brush them back as close to the scalp as possible.

Glam your pony up.

To elevate the look of your ponytail, take a quarter of an inch section from it and tightly wrap it around the base (as if you were hiding the elastic). Tuck ends in and secure it with a bobby pin or simply under the hair tie.

Done!

No wonder it’s one of the most requested hairstyles among celebrities! This classy high ponytail is the ultimate “lift” treatment – a “magic trick” that can visually elongate your face while accentuating the symmetry of your features. A win in our book!

A surprisingly easy ‘do to take you from day to night in style. So, get ready to swish that pony wherever the day takes you and dazzle with chicness and shine. And remember – the higher the pony, the closer to heaven!
