6 Textured Hairstyles We Love and How to Create that Lived-in Look
Hairstyles that will give you all the feels.
Smooth and neat looks are officially out and textured hairstyles are in. From the runway to street style, women are either embracing their natural hair textures, or doing everything under the sun to create texture on hair that’s stubborn when it comes to holding a curl. Below we’ve rounded up our top edit of textured styles from the catwalk to the streets and our best tips for how you can get these looks.
6 of The Best Textured Hairstyles from Fashion Month
1. The Look: Combed Out ‘Fro
Wash your hair and then dry your strands with a diffuser or air-dry your strands, then use a fine-toothed comb to comb through to create a picked-out texture.
2. The Look: Undone Side Swept Bangs
To turn a prim hairstyle into something less stuffy, finger combing is a simple styling technique to try. Prep your hair with TRESemmé Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Spray, then use a flat iron to create waves. Create a deep side part, then use your fingers to roughly swoop your hair to the side and pin in place.
3. The Look: Business at the Root, Party at the Ends
Part your hair down the middle and create a sleek ponytail on each side (a.k.a. pigtails), secure with a hair elastic, then braid the ends. Then, release elastic and braids and focus on separating the ends to enhance texture and volume.
4. The Look: Bold Blonde Buzz
This one starts in the salon. Ask your stylist for the best blonde for your skin tone then, go for the buzzcut. Opt for a super high fade so you still can style the look other ways if you want to. The key to this sharp and edgy look? A blowdryer with a comb attachment! Simply blow-dry your hair upwards until you get the spiky, light and airy texture you desire.
5. The Look: The Curly Pixie
Air-dry, air-dry, air-dry! But, if you must use a dryer, skip the diffuser and rough dry instead. To get your curls to clump together when styling, use TRESemmé Flawless Curls Defining Gel, then scrunch to intensify the texture.

6. The Look: Baby Hair Overload
Gather your hair into an updo and finish off the look by pulling out a few pieces of hair at the hairline to create the piecey effect.
Slept-in Texture Hairstyles from Creatures of Comfort at NYFW
There’s something celebrity hairstylist, Instagram sensation and TRESemmé’s new global hairstylist, Justine Marjan wants you to know, as told by the looks she created for the Creatures of Comfort FW/17 show: Messy hairstyles aren’t going anywhere, and neither are braids.
We went behind the scenes at NYFW to get the inside scoop on how these slept-in texture hairstyles were created with the new TRESemmé Repair & Protect line and how you, dear trendsetter, can do it, too! Read on to learn how you can stay ahead of the game and get the look at home. Why wait for the fall season to try out this look?
Marjan on the inspiration behind the look:
“The collection is very woodsy inspired and romantic. Like the girl that’s out camping and slept on her hair,” explains Marjan. Which explains the dreamy braid complemented with a matte and frizzy hair texture.
How the models were prepped:
All the models had heat applied to their hair, so before getting to that step, hair was washed and conditioned with TRESemmé Repair & Protect Shampoo and TRESemmé Repair & Protect Conditioner. “The models that came in with dry hair, we applied mousse to create the foundation then sprayed dry hair with dry shampoo to give the hair texture.”

Getting the look at home:
According to Justine, an easy way to get this look at home is to simply put your hair into a braid and sleep on it. However, if you have more time on your hands follow the below steps to get the runway look.
Step 1: Wash your hair.
Start by washing hair with TRESemmé Repair & Protect Shampoo and Conditioner to protect hair against breakage.
Step 2: Part your hair.
Part hair down the center and apply a dollop of TRESemmé TRES Two Extra Firm Control Mousse throughout your hair, combing through with your fingers for even distribution
Step 3: Blow-dry your hair.
Take sections of hair into your hands and fold them up, 3 inches at a time until it hits your scalp. Blow-dry each section using hot air to set the foundation and lock in the style. To seal, use cold air.
Step 4: Use a flat iron.
To create defined waves, use a flat iron to create an “S” shape like crimps throughout your hair.
Step 5: Spray your roots.
Spray roots with TRESemmé Fresh Start Basic Care Dry Shampoo to soak up any excess oil ensuring you’ll get the lived-in, matte look you’re after.
Step 6: Separate your hair.
Separate the front piece of hair on each side of the part and gather the remaining section to create a loose braid leaving the front pieces out for a slept-in texture. Secure the braid with bobby pins leaving out 1-3 inches at the end for an effortless finish.
Step 7: Lock in your style.
Seal look with TRESemmé TRES Two Firm Control Hairspray to lock the look in.
