NYFW SS‘24: How to Recreate Satin Strands from Christian Siriano

The sleekest strands you've ever had, courtesy of NYFW.

Backstage at Christian Siriano’s NYFW SS’24 show, it’s all about satin strands hair extensions and silky tresses with lead stylist Lacy Redway. Referencing her long history of working closely with Siriano, Redway shares her inspiration for the look and instructions for how to recreate the style at home.

“My inspiration started from the clothes,” Redway shares. “The moment I saw the softness of the color tones, the richness of the fabrication, and the beautiful layering of the tulle details of the gowns in Christian’s studio, I knew to best support the looks I had to keep the hair feeling soft with clean girl aesthetic but put together like you would expect to see a ballerina fairy who twirls down the runway.”

Using TRESemmé products and plenty of patience and focus, Redway created these precise satin styles that perfectly complemented Siriano’s creations.

Step 1: Prep your hair.

Prep strands with the TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Heat Protect Spray, then smooth TRESemmé Extra Hold Mousse on the roots before blow drying with a flat paddle brush. Redway stresses the use of a paddle brush over a round brush to create a pin-straight finish.

Step 2: Straighten your strands.

Use a flat iron to straighten strands, then spray the TRESemmé Ultra Fine Hairspray on a paddle brush and run through hair to smooth away flyaways. This step is essential to that silky smooth finish.

Step 3: Add some shine.

Give ends of your hair extra hydration and shine by adding the TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Shine Serum. Apply a dime-sized amount of product to your hands, warm the product up, and comb it through the ends of your hair.

Step 4: Secure the ribbons.

Lift small sections of hair, then back comb underneath and spritz with TRESemmé Ultra Fine Hairspray to give the hair a grip. After that, use a bobby pin to secure a ribbon to the base of the hair.

Step 1: Prep your hair.

Start by prepping your hair with a dose of hydration. Use TRESemmé Extra Hold Mousse to hydrate strands and give them a grip for styling. Run the mousse through the roots of your hair and down to the ends.

Step 2: Create a part.

After that, create a part from the top of the ears all the way around the crown of the head. Then separate the top section into two smaller sections by parting the hair down the middle.

Step 3: Dutch braid.

Dutch braid each section towards the nape of the neck, then bring the two sections together, and fasten with an elastic. Use a touch of TRESemmé Extra Hold Gel to braids to flatten any flyaways.

Step 4: Braid the remaining hair.

Braid the remaining hair, then loop the braids into a bun. Use an elastic to secure the entire style with TRESemmé Extra Hold Hairspray.

Step 5: Tie your ribbons.

Finish off by looping a ribbon through the top of the braids, and continue threading the ribbon through the style like a corset, wrapping around the loop of the bun, and letting the ends hang loose.
