6 Wedding Updo Hairstyles Perfect for Your Winter Events

Show off your vintage style (and keep your hair off your face) with a headband.

1. Romantic Vintage Side Chignon

There is always room for chic vintage hairstyles, which is why we love romantic wedding updo hairstyles. This style features soft curls using a large barrel curling iron that you lightly brush back and collect on one side. Then just pin into a large, loose chignon. Pull out a few face-framing tendrils and pop on a headband to finish the vintage effect.

2. Braided Curls

We love this fun updo because it perfectly pairs two of our favorite easy hairstyles: braids and curls. This style is done in two parts. First, take a large two to three-inch section of your hair from the nape of your neck as you create a simple three-strand braid. Secure the braid with a small hair elastic. Then, using a curling wand to curl the rest of your hair. Use pin curls or hot rollers for the biggest curled effect. When the curls have cooled, release them and comb through with your fingers.

Finish the style by wrapping the braid around your hairline, ending at the nape of your neck. Then just cover the end of the braid by pinning up the curls. Make sure to set your style with Bed Head by TIGI Headrush Shine Hairspray to ensure that your awesome updo lasts all night long.

3. Loose Pinned Up Curls

If you have a wedding dress as gorgeous as this one, keep your hair low key. A loose curly updo is a perfect complement to nearly any style of dress—whether you are going vintage or modern. Bonus: it’s also super comfortable. All you need to do is curl your hair! Before blow-drying, add Nexxus Mousse Plus Volumizing Foam to your roots for massive volume. When your hair is dry, use a curling wand to work section-by-section to create defined curls. We always suggest letting your curls cool down before fussing with them. Once your curls are cool, pin them around the nape of your neck.

4. Ballerina Bun

For a formal updo in no time flat, try out a modern ballerina bun. To add a little more texture to your bun, make it a braided ballerina bun. For even more texture, opt for a funky hair accessory that’ll show off your look in style. We like this one because it’s elegant but the long braided tassel evens out what could be a top-heavy look.

5. Sleek, Twisted Low Chignon

If you have a dress with a plunging back, complement it with a simple but not stuffy low chignon. Before you blow-dry your hair, apply TRESemmé One-Step 5-in-1 Smoothing Cream onto your hair. This will ensure that your hair is glossy and flyaway-free. Then, use a large comb to deal with any knots as you wrap your hair around into this low, twisted chignon.

6. Crown Braid

A long hair favorite will always be the crown braid. It’s so simple but totally elegant for your winter wedding. Check out our hair tutorial to get the perfect crown braid. Pro tip: Make sure that you have lots of bobby pins and some hairspray on hand to make sure your braids are secure. Give your braids extra volume by working in hair extensions or by loosening up the braids before you pin.
