V-Day Alert: Sleek and Romantic at Jonathan Simkhai F/W 2018

A makeshift choker and satiny texture redefine downtown romance for 2018.

If you’re finding yourself in a rut as to what to wear on one of the biggest date nights of the year, look no further: Jonathan Simkhai just served up a romantic, boudoir-moody take on daywear and separates bound to make any evening—and after-party, Valentine’s Day or otherwise—one for the books. Giving the lush ensembles of his F/W 2018 collection a bonafide city-girl spin however was the clever, always-chic iteration of sleek and romantic locks, courtesy of TRESemmé NYFW stylist Odile Gilbert. “I was inspired by the idea of a choker, but wanted to work it into the hairstyle for an edgy twist on the look,” she said.

Odile explains that though the hair at the show was more conceptual, it can always be recreated for real life by tucking hair into a coat or a scarf—a very French way to work around the elements, and something that’s been on-trend and best yet, is delightfully winter-appropriate and super easy to recreate by us hectic city folk. Step 1: Start on clean, washed hair.

The sleek and romantic hairstyles backstage start off with a healthy, frizz-free sheen. Emulate this gleam by washing and prepping hair with TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Shampoo and Keratin Smooth Conditioner before styling.

Step 4: Dry and curl.

Blow-dry hair until at least 90 percent dry, and curl the bottom ends with a curling iron to create natural texture. Separate the curls with your fingers, and then spray hair with TRESemmé Fresh Start Volumizing Dry Shampoo to absorb any excess grease at the root, as well as create more texture.

Step 5: Finish with hairspray.

To mimic the runway look, tie on a string at the nape and spray hair with TRESemmé Compressed Micro-Mist Hairspray Smooth Hold Level 2. Misting all over and using your palms to smooth down the top half of your hair and hold the style in place, without any stiffness.
