At Alice + Olivia NYFW SS ’19, The Low Knotted Pony Gets a Makeover

The low knotted pony is a tale as old as time: mix loads of texture with a swept back style and you have a red carpet favorite that stylists return to again and again. Justine Marjan, TRESemmé Global Stylist, reimagined the low knotted pony for the Alice + Olivia NYFW SS ’19 show. Full of texture and a trendy kind of messiness, Marjan proved once again that the low knotted pony works on every hair type and texture. This time, she added a bright pop of color and her signature magic touch. “For an on-trend, neon pop of color,” Marjan says, “Add in dyed Hidden Crown Clip Ins at the crown of the head before securing hair in the ponytail.”
Give Your Low Knotted Pony a Makeover à la Alice + Olivia SS ’19
Step 1: Wash your hair.
Start off by washing your hair with TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Shampoo and Conditioner to create a frizz-free foundation for your hair. After your hair has dried, spray TRESemmé Compressed Micro-Mist Hair Spray Texture Hold Level 1 and brush through.

Step 2: Curl your hair.
Curl small sections of your hair with a curling iron to create a loose, natural-looking curl pattern throughout. Add even more thickness by adding hair extensions, as well.
Step 3: Smooth your style.
Use a smoothing brush to tease the roots at the crown of the head for even more volume. Create a clean center part and use your hands to gather your hair in a low pony and secure with an elastic.
Step 4: Style.
Grab two pieces of hair from the outside of the pony and tie them into a knot around the base and pin the strands to the base of the scalp. Continue doing this two to three more times under the first knot and work your way down the ponytail.
Step 5: Secure.
Secure loose strands with bobby pins and backcomb through the length of the pony for an even messier finish. Complete the look with a mist of TRESemmé Compressed Micro-Mist Hairspray Extend Hold Level 4 to keep the look in place without making it stiff.
