5 Gorgeous Hair Highlight Colors to Check Out Now

Lighten up this spring with these highlight hair ideas.

You love your hair but maybe you want to mix it up a bit without chopping it off. We get that and that’s where hair highlight colors come in as a way to enhance your hair or flatter your face with a dramatic or subtle hue. And the beauty of hair highlights is that they’ve come a long way where you can rock a variety of colors or perhaps just switch things up by going a shade lighter. Whatever you’re after, we have you covered in our recap featuring some of our favorite hair highlights to inspire you this year.

Hair Highlight Colors to Rock

1. Chunky Platinum Highlights

There will always be a place for chunky, platinum hair highlights in our book. These blonder than blonde highlight colors are perfect for every skin tone because you can keep platinum very neutral toned. But, the downside is, to get a platinum color on dark hair you’ll have some damage from the bleach. It’s an unfortunate reality of lifting a dark color to basically colorless. To hydrate your hair afterwards use a mask, like the Suave Hydrating Coconut Conditioning Mask, that will work to hydrate your hair and protect your vivid color.

2. Neon Blue Highlights

Do you like the blue hair trend but don’t want a whole head of navy colored hair? Try getting blue highlights instead! Colorful highlights are so much fun, and allow you to wear a cool shade without going whole hog with it. Try this look with several different shades of blue for an exciting, multi-tonal look.

3. Silver Highlights

If you’ve been itching to try the silver hair trend but don’t want to wear it all over, try silver highlights on platinum hair. With hair this processed (it’s no joke to get to platinum hair!) you’ll need to work hydration back in, pretty much daily. We like to use the Suave Professionals Castor Oil & Mango Butter Anti-Breakage Treatment that you can apply on wet or dry hair. When used on dry hair, just use a very small amount on the ends of your hair to maintain a layer of protection and hydration.

4. Chocolate Mauve Highlights

Is there anything quite like chocolate mauve hair? We’re still obsessed with runaway hit of fall that’s all about its combined tones of purple/mauve/brown hair colors! It’s a fun statement without being totally over the top. To get this perfect color you’ll need to work with a colorist who can create the perfect tones for you.

5. Ginger Highlights

Another awesome thing about highlights is that they don’t always need to be super high-contrast to make an impact such as with these super subtle, slightly ginger highlights. When going for a red-toned shade, don’t forget that it tends to wash out rather quickly. Try to save your vibrant color by taking an extra day between washing your hair. In those instances, use a dry shampoo to revive your strands, like the Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion Color Care Dry Shampoo.
