Although short haircuts are dominating the fashion scene at the moment, we still have to show some love to the long-haired gals. (Not everyone wants a short cut — well, at least not yet.) While long straight styles are a popular look for the red carpet and beyond, you can’t ever go wrong with a little texture, and long wavy curls is our go-to look at the moment for just that.
It may not be beach season yet, (that’s unless you’re somewhere the weather permits a swim in the ocean) but it doesn’t mean you can’t ride the beach wave with your hair. Below, we’re showing you a simple way to create natural-looking long wavy curls on your hair no matter the season in just four steps.
Get The Look: Natural and Long Wavy Curls Tutorial
Step 1: Wash your hair.
Cleanse and condition your hair with a hair care system that will leave it looking healthy. Our current favorite is Suave Lemongrass & Ginger Strengthening Shampoo and Suave Lemongrass & Ginger Strengthening Conditioner. This system not only leaves your hair smelling amazing, but it also helps to protect your hair against damage.
Step 2: Towel-dry, but not completely.
Detangle hair with a detangling brush then use a microfiber towel or a paper towel to soak up excess water before styling. Try to rough-dry your hair to create a natural-looking texture. Be gentle during this process to avoid creating tangles.
Step 3: Add your styler.
Use a hair product, like TRESemmé Make Waves Shaping Gel or TRESemmé Make Waves Defining Cream, to create your wavy curls. Rake the product through your damp hair in sections then allow your hair to air-dry. Once hair is dry, use your fingers to comb to separate curls, which creates volume.
Step 4: Set hair to avoid frizz.
We recommend applying a hairspray to set your style after you’ve created the amount of texture you want on your long wavy curls. Apply TRESemmé Climate Protection Finishing Spray to set your hairstyle and to helo you avoid any unwanted frizz.
