During my adolescent years, my mom always used to say, “I’m not wearing my hair in a ponytail; people are going to mistake us for sisters.” Little did I know she wasn’t the only one with this mentality. Some people think that there are only certain hairstyles for women over 50. While my mom wasn’t near 50 at the time, she was definitely worried that people may mistake her for a teen. Truth be told, calling my mom out in public caused heads to turn and a lot of puzzled faces. Fast-forward to now, and my mom has chopped all her hair off, and guess what, she still gets mistaken for someone much younger than she is. Sorry, mom!

However, keep in mind that the products you use can make or break the end result. Apply mousse and prep for blowdrying.
Depending on the length of your hair, apply a few pumps of TRESemmé Beauty-Full Volume Touchable Bounce Mousse to give your hair volume after blow-drying without the stiff and crunchy feeling. For short hair, dispense one pump. Longer hair lengths will probably need two to three pumps of the mousse.

Blowdry with a round brush.
When it comes to blow-drying, you have options. You can either blow-dry your hair straight, or go for a subtle curl. Using a round brush, pick up a section of hair, then point the blowdryer (with a concentrator nozzle attached) and begin to dry. To create a curl, bend the ends of your hair underneath as you blow-dry.

Part hair and create a smooth base.
Create a deep side part on one side of your hair, then smooth down with a brush. After smoothing hair down, leave a section out on both sides of your hair then proceed to the next step.

Create your ponytail.
Gather the back section of your hair into a low ponytail and fasten with a hair tie. After creating your pony, take the hair from your first section and wrap it around your hair tie to conceal your elastic.

Complete the wrapping process.
Take the other side and wrap it around the base of your ponytail. Secure with a hair pin.

Set your style.
To finish your look, set your hair with Dove Style + Care Compressed Flexible Hold Hairspray. There you have it: one of the easiest and chicest hairstyles for women over 50; a sophisticated ponytail!
