From Runway to Realway: The Bun and Dreads Hybrid
File this under your new protective style to try.
Dreads are far beyond being just another run of the mill hair trend, but we love how designers are inspired by the culture of this hairstyle. We can’t help but admire the way they use the look to curate a vision for their new collections, and how they apply a stylish spin that stays true to their brand. For the Haute Couture Fall 2016 season models graced the runways with new ways to wear updo styles, but nothing compares to the awesome bun and dreads hybrid.
We’re digging this look as a protective hairstyle option, or you can dress it up and wear this updo to a formal event. While it looks pretty complex to achieve, with 20 minutes and patience you’re on your way to killing the scene with one of fall’s top hair trends. Here’s how you can copy this hairstyle at home.
Bun and Dreads Hybrid: How to Get the Look
Step 1: Start clean.
To begin, wash your hair with Suave Professionals Almond & Shea Butter Shampoo followed by Suave Professionals Almond & Shea Butter Conditioner to help make your hair soft and really manageable hair.
Step 2: Create your sections.
Divide your hair into two sections by parting it from ear-to-ear. Clip away the front section of your hair and begin with the back half. Using a wide-tooth comb, create a small, long and narrow section in the direction you want your flat twist to go. In this case, you want it to go towards the middle of your crown.
Step 3: Apply holding gel and flat twist.
After creating your first section, apply some of the Nexxus New York Salon Care Exxtra Hold Sculpting Gel then flat twist the hair by tightly rolling the roots upward and gathering more hair as you go along the section. When you’ve arrived to the middle of your crown secure the twist with a hair elastic then move on. Continue this step until your entire hair is twisted.
Step 4: Create your dreadlock bun.
To create the faux dreads, apply more gel for additional hold. Then, twist your ends for each section by simply twirling the lengths of your hair. Again, use hair elastics to keep the ends put or backcomb to fasten. Wrap the ends into a high bun and use bobby pins to set in place. Alternatively, you can use loc extensions or a clip in to help create a bigger and fuller bun.
Step 5: Finish your style.
Use a holding spray to lock in your new look. Opt for a spray that provides both hold and shine like the Dove Style + Care Extra Hold Hairspray.
