How to Style Long Hair With an Undercut For the Holidays

Giving you the lowdown on how I style my long hair undercut.

This is my first holiday season where I’ll have both long hair and an undercut! The last few years I’ve had a bob or a lob, so I’m excited to try fresher, more elegant looks. The process of how to style long hair with an undercut is actually really easy: I’ve just been modifying my favorite styles to fall in a way that shows off my shorn hair. I’m pretty sure my go-to style this season will be this wraparound Dutch braid. Keep on reading to learn how to style long hair into my new signature holiday style:

1. Prep your hair.

Without all the humidity that comes with living in New Orleans during the summer, in the winter everything seems dehydrated in comparison. And that goes for my hair, too! I’ve been training my hair to last an extra day in between washing, so Dove Style+Care Volume and Fullness Dry Shampoo has been my hair’s BFF. This is especially useful with my newly cut hair bangs. All I do is prep my roots with the dry shampoo on second and third day hair, allowing them to look clean and ready for styling.

2. Try a Dutch braid.

I’ve always love the extra interest of doing a Dutch braid. If you know how to French braid, you can Dutch braid! Seriously! Just braid under instead of over. I start the braid on one side, behind my bangs. Then, I braid following my hairline so it curves slightly too, for extra visual interest. I love that this hairstyle shows my undercut but also partially covers it. I think it makes my plain, straight-cut look more purposely styled.

3. Set the style.

I braid downwards until he style hits my ear, where I then finish with a hair tie. Since my hair is quite slick and often prone to flyaways, I like to lock in my style by giving it a good mist of Suave Professionals Luxe Style Infusion Anti-Humidity Hairspray, which is especially helpful to help ensure that my locks remain frizz-free. If I’m mostly indoors, I’ll add a drop of Suave Professionals Coconut Oil Infusion Damage Repair Oil Treatment through the ends of my hair and be good to go.
