Tips to get you through No-Shave November

It’s beast season! As most know, No-Shave November or Movember is upon us, and that means we’ll be seeing a lot more of the guys rocking their freshly grown beards.

No-Shave November started over a decade ago as a movement to raise awareness and create conversation around prostate and testicular cancer. This month of ‘no shaving’ has become a phenomenon shared by different men across the world. It’s a month that not only supports a good cause and foundation (Movember foundation) but also allows you to embrace your facial hair.

If you’re thinking about giving it a go, there are a few unspoken ‘rules’ that should be taken into consideration. To get you started we’ve put together 5 tips to get you through No-Shave November like a bearded-pro.

Get the right No-shave November tools

If you’ve made the decision to join No-Shave November, the first order of business is to get yourself some manscaping tools. Although the aim is to grow it all out, you still need to keep it looking good — and that means regular trims.
We’d suggest getting yourself some quality clippers and scissors to use throughout the month. Using good quality clippers or scissors will help you get a more even and controlled trim. For the best results we say do all the trimming when your beard is completely dry — a ‘wet beard trim’ could result is uneven patches because you can’t properly judge the length of the hair.

Regular washes

A month of no shaving definitely does not mean a month of no washing…
Just like the head of your hair, your beard needs some TLC too. Make sure you wash your face daily (as you probably already do), and whilst doing that get in a beard-shampoo a few times a week. This will ensure that your beard stays clean, nourished and looking its best during no-shave November.

Although it may seem easier to grab the body soap, it isn’t created for your facial hair and may be too harsh on your skin.

Keep your beard moisturised

Another PSA we need to make is that, just like the hair on your heard, the hair on your face needs moisture. No one wants to go through No-Shave November with a scratchy and itchy beard…

To keep your beard healthy you should be moisturising at least twice a week. This will help to keep the hair hydrated, prevent breakage and leave it feeling smooth (and comfortable on your face).

After meal checks

Now this may be slightly annoying, but it is a necessary reminder. Growing a beard for Movember means that you will have a lot more happening on your face. Which can sometimes get in the way of demolishing a delicious burger.

‘After meal checks’ just means that you should check your beard after enjoying a potentially messy meal. No one wants to see leftovers stuck to your beard. To avoid this, make sure to trim your beard regularly, but also have a serviette close by to wipe away anything that may get stuck on your beard.

Brush you beard

Again, something that is a must in beard-care — brushing your beard every day. During No-Shave November it’s important to get a good beard comb or brush. These would generally have thicker bristles to easily get through the thicker beard hair.

Brushing your beard daily (even if it’s short) will prevent knots from forming and help to keep any dust and dandruff out of your hair.
