NYFW kicked off and we were backstage with Lacy Redway for the LaQuan Smith show. The celebrity and TRESemmé global hairstylist created a sleek pony to embody every unique look from the collection.
How To Do the Unique LaQuan Smith Pony in Five Steps
The Laquan Smith pony from the designer’s Spring/Summer 2022 New York Fashion Week collection, is set to be one of the biggest hair trends this upcoming season!
Therefore, All Things Hair went backstage with global hairstylist Lacy Redway to show you how to achieve this gorgeous LaQuan Smith pony style from home!
Step 1: Start with Hair Mousse
Start by applying TRESemmé Extra Hold Mousse and TRESemmé Flawless Curls Defining Cream throughout clean and dry hair to help define the natural texture of the hair and to help enhance the structure of the individual strands.
Step 2: Rough-Dry Hair
Once the product is applied throughout the hair, rough dry hair with a hairdryer while adding a two-strand twist throughout the hair to further enhance the natural texture of the hair. For extra protection use, TRESemmé Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Spray for extra hold when creating the inspired LaQuan Smith pony.
I wanted to merge a traditional, wavy hairstyle with a modern twist of baby hairs for the La Quan Smith show. The sleekness in his clothing aesthetic, along with the variety of fabrics and textures he uses inspired me to create this look. It’s a mixture of components of some classics we have seen in the past but modernizing it for the LaQuan Smith woman who sits on top of the world in her mind, as we do on one of the highest buildings in Manhattan.

Step 3: Hold the Pony
Once completely dry, spray TRESemmé TRES TWO Extra Hold Hair Spray on a flat brush and scoop the hair into a ponytail. Then, tightly hold the pony with an elastic. This will help to create that sleek look for the pony – LaQuan Smith style!
Step 4: Sleek up the Pony Look
Take a small strand from underneath the ponytail, spray it with TRESemmé TRES TWO Extra Hold Hair Spray. Next, wrap it around the elastic to conceal it with the strand. Then, add a band around the front section of the hair to help lay the edges flat.
Step 5: Final Touches

For an added touch, add loose curls to each strand of the ponytail. Be sure to add some shine to your hair! Apply TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Shine Serum on the ponytail for a finishing effect.
