Follow our step-by-step tutorial to achieve this fun and high fashion look in just a few steps.

Go Sleek and Sophisticated with a Slicked Back Chignon

Step 1: Section Hair

Separate hair into four quadrants: left side, top, right, and bottom.

Step 2: Break Out the Hairspray

Starting with the section at the nape, add tensions and saturate with TRESemmé TRES TWO Freeze Hold Hair Spray.

Step 3: Create a Low Pony

Slowly add horizontal sections from the top quadrant, brushing and bringing it into a low pony and securing it with your hand.

Step 4: Continue Gathering

Continue through the top sections until all hair is brought into the ponytail. Brush the right and left quadrants into the ponytail, pulling straight back with tension and hairspray.

Step 5: Straighten and Smooth

Flat iron bangs that need to be smoothed into the style and smooth them back into the look with TRESemmé TRES TWO Ultra Firm Control Gel.

Step 6: Gel and Comb

Add gel to your hair with the tail of a comb to precisely tame flyaways and bumps.

Step 7: Split Ponytail

Split hair in the ponytail into two sections. Twist each outward with hair gel.

Step 8: Twist Sections

Twist sections around the base of the ponytail, pinning into a bun as you go. Touch up with gel as needed.

Step 9: Achieve a Wet Look

To achieve the wet look, use TRESemmé Smooth Dry Oil Spray and/or TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Shine Serum on top of the hair and smooth back into a sleek finish.

That’s all there is to this slicked back chignon look! It’s a great style to try if you’re looking for something out of your comfort zone but still easily achievable. Happy styling!
