Cushnie’s Sleek Braided Pony Turned Heads at NYFW SS ’19

The designs and styles featured by Cushnie, formerly known as Cushnie et Ochs before their recent rebrand, turned heads at this season’s New York Fashion Week. The sleek braided pony kept the models’ hair away from their faces and let the colorful, textured designs do all the talking. We went backstage with Ursula Stephen, TRESemmé NYFW Stylist, to learn more about the sleek braided pony and find out exactly how to recreate this head-turning style:
Master the Sleek Braided Pony at Cushnie SS ’19
Step 1: Wash your hair.
Start with a clean, keratin-infused base by washing and conditioning your hair with TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Shampoo and Conditioner. This will ensure that you start your style off sleek and smooth.

Step 2: Prep your hair.
Next, spritz your damp hair with TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Heat Protectant Spray. Be sure to spray the product all over before blow drying your strands.
Step 3: Create the pony.
Brush all of your hair straight back (sans part) into a low ponytail and mist the hair with TRESemmé Repair and Protect 7 Pre-Styling Spray as you smooth the hair back. Secure with a black rubber band. Ursula Stephen, TRESemmé NYFW stylist, stresses the importance of using the pre-styling spray while creating the ponytail: “This will make hair very smooth and shiny while protecting it from any breakage or damage from the braiding.”
Step 5: Braid and secure.
Braid the ponytail in a classic three-strand braid and secure the bottom with a second rubber band.
Step 6: Secure flyaways.
Use just a touch of TRESemmé TRES Two Mega Firm Gel to smooth any flyaways throughout the braid and surrounding the face.
Step 7: Done!
