Dove DermaCare Scalp Series: 5 Flake-Free Hair Tips

How to kiss your flakes good-bye this season.

If you’ve found yourself surfing the net all winter long for flake-free hair tips, you’re not alone. During the winter season, many individuals suffer from gnarly dandruff and dry scalp issues due to the dry winter air. And, believe it or not, dandruff is also worsened by some of our wardrobe choices. Yeah, that chic slouchy cashmere hat you love to wear to complete your fashionable ensemble may be doing your scalp more harm than good. Read on as we unveil some helpful winter hair care tips for a flake-free scalp with the help of the Dove DermaCare Scalp series along with some guidance from Dove Hair Expert Dermatologist Dr. Francesca Fusco.

Tips for a Flaky Scalp and Using Dove DermaCare Scalp Series

1. Don’t skip the poo.

For many, it may make sense to prolong the periods in between hair washes to take care of your flaky situation. “Dandruff is best controlled with the regular use of a dandruff shampoo and conditioner, such as Dove DermaCare Scalp series,” explains Dr. Franceso Fusco.

2. D.I.Y. concoctions like sugar scrubs can help.

Calling all mixologists, we have a simple, effective and dermatologist-approved DIY scrub for you. “Mix a table spoon of sugar with Dove DermaCare Scalp Dryness & Itch Relief Anti-Dandruff Shampoo and gently massage it into your scalp using your fingertips”, advises Fusco. Scrubs are great skin exfoliators, “sugar will gently exfoliate and completely dissolve, without leaving behind any grit or particles.”

3. Hats off!

No, you shouldn’t forego wearing your favorite beanie all winter long, but you should limit how long you wear it if you have a dry or oily scalp. Fusco advises allowing your scalp breathe while indoors.

Itchy scalps can be a nuisance. Soothe your itch with the help of an essential oil.

4. Fight the urge to itch.

This may be difficult to do, but as much as itching may give you temporary relief, Fusco suggests to find ease with essential oils like lavender. According to Fusco, “I always urge my patients to not scratch. Once you start scratching you’ll notice flakes on your shirt. If you fell the urge to scratch, I recommend taking a sniff of a calming oil like lavender.” Lavender is widely known for its ability to reduce stress thus resisting the urge to itch your scalp.

5. Learn the right way to use your dandruff shampoo.

Fusco advises to damp your hair and scalp, then apply Dove DermaCare Scalp Invigoration Mint Anti-Dandruff Shampoo for hair that needs to be quenched or Dove DermaCare Scalp Pure Daily Care 2 in 1 Shampoo & Conditioner to nourish hair directly onto your scalp and allow it to sit for 5 minutes, saturate with water then build a lather. “The nourishing ingredients provided by the new Dove DermaCare Scalp series will leave hair feeling moisturized, smooth and healthy. The prolonged contact of zinc pyrithione on your scalp is excellent in treating flakes,” says Fusco.
