It’s All About Straight Shiny Hair at Carolina Herrera SS2017

Structure in the front, softness in the back.

At the Carolina Herrera Spring/Summer 2017 show for New York Fashion Week, TRESemmé Lead Stylist Orlando Pita gave us a sneak peek into the origami-inspired hair backstage. The “very graphic” look, which took blowing strands out resulting in straight shiny hair held up in a half-updo, was a study in precision. “We want perfection,” Orlando said when referencing the hairstyle, which was held up by a carefully camouflaged crisscross of pins on the back of the head (hence its rightful nod to Japanese paper-folding).

Read on for some tips on acing this immaculate sleek look:

Get the Look: Straight Shiny Hair at Carolina Herrera Spring/Summer 2017

Step 1: Start with a smoothening system.

Prep hair for styling by washing with a smoothening system such as TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Keratin Infusing Shampoo, followed by Keratin Smooth Keratin Infusing Conditioner.

Step 2: Prep with a serum.

Apply a dime-sized amount of shine serum, like TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Keratin Infusing Smoothing Serum, on the lengths of the hair to give it softness, as Orlando did on the models. Blowdry hair straight with a round bristle brush and comb hair with a fine-toothed comb.

Step 3: Straighten and add a hair oil.

Straighten hair with a hot iron to remove any kinks. Afterwards, reinforce the seal-like gleam of straight shiny hair with a non-greasy hair oil in a spray formulation, such as TRESemmé Botanique Damage Recovery Oil Elixir. Focus your application on the lengths and ends to help seal strands down for more shine.

Step 4: Apply gel to the roots.

This half-updo still required a bit of hold at the front. Achieve this polish with some gel mussed in at the root using your fingers. We like the control we get from TRESemmé TRES Two Extra Firm Control Gel.

Step 5: Blow-dry through.

Blow-dry gel throughout the hair on a low setting for a matte finish (Tip: Focus airflow on the roots.). Do gentle downward tugs to help straighten hair and give it a smooth, silky feel.

Step 6: Create a deep side part.

Using a fine-toothed comb or the end of a rat-tail comb, make a deep side part and then comb hair straight back. Hold it in place with TRESemmé TRES Two Extra Hold Non-Aerosol Hairspray for some targeted control.

Step 7: Crisscross hair and secure with hair ties.

Taking a two-inch section from just above the ear, sweep hair across and secure with some hair on the opposite side with an elastic band. Repeat on the other side. Carefully refine the hairline area, making sure you have a smooth, bump-free base.

Step 8: Tuck it in.

Carefully tuck the elastics under some hair until they are completely hidden. Finish off the entire look with some more spritzes of hairspray. Done!
