Enter the Upside-Down: Stranger Things inspired hairstyles

Season 4 of Netflix’s Stranger Things has been out for a little while now and we’ve had some time to recover from the action. By now, most people have heard of it. But if you’re still unfamiliar with the show, it’s set in a small American town in the 1980s and centres on a young group of friends dealing with secret government experiments and supernatural forces. If that sounds interesting, that’s because it is, and we recommend you go watch it – especially after reading this article!

We’re totally obsessed with the retro hairstyles in the show, so we put together a list of our faves throughout the seasons. Keep reading for the best looks from Stranger Things.

The iconic Stranger Things buzzcut

This look pops-up throughout the seasons and definitely holds up as one of the most iconic Stranger Things hairstyles. Pretty much everyone knew about little Millie Bobby Brown’s bold buzzcut. And dare we say, it inspired quite a few people to take the plunge and get their hair razored off.

Will Byers’ bowl cut

This look may have been attached to a character that’s kept us on our toes, but there’s no denying that their hairstyle turned heads and had people talking too. Bowl cuts can look great, if they’re done right. So here’s our take on a modern (stylish) version of this Stranger Things hairdo!

Add a bit of texture to really get the best out of this haircut. You can do this by applying a bit of texturising spray, hair wax or mousse with your fingertips, like the TRESemmé Volume & Lift Mousse.

In the latest season of Stranger Things, Nancy debuted the most gorgeous wavy hairdo, complete with bangs. If you decide to try out this look, remember: volume is key!

Speaking of volume… Steve Harrington had one of the most beloved looks in Stranger Things. His hair was certainly a star of the show, and you know it.

Editor’s tip: Volume is everything with this look. And easy way to achieve it is to add lift to your roots. So after washing your hair, blow-dry the roots upside down. It sounds weird, but it works wonders. Set it with some strong hold hairspray once the hair is dry and the roots have been blown out in the Upside-Down (see what we did there?) A great option to use is the TRESemmé Extra Hold Hairspray – it won’t dry out your hair or leave any flakes or crispiness.

Eleven’s curly crop

After the iconic buzzcut, Eleven’s hair grew into this absolutely adorable curly crop. It’s untamed and living its best life in its natural state. Gotta love it!

Half-up scrunchie

Okay, this is the last look from Eleven, we swear! She’s had so many hairdos in Stranger Things, it’s no wonder she appears so many times in this list. This half-up hairstyle is a long-time fave that keeps trending throughout the decades. Don’t forget to complete the look with a colourful scrunchie.

Dustin’s curly pompadour

Dustin usually sports the most adorable curly crop, but for a brief time in season 2 of Stranger Things, he makes an entrance with a curly pompadour with slicked-back sides. Now, that look might be a bit too retro for current fashion trends, so here’s an updated version with an undercut instead of slicked back sides.
