How to refresh and style jumbo braid curls

If you’ve been rocking jumbo braid curls lately you may know the struggle of your curled ends starting to unravel…but don’t fear! Our ATH girl, Carla, helped us save the day with her tutorial on how to refresh and style jumbo braid curls.

Read on to find out her tricks to refresh, plus how to create two cute styles with your braids.

Refresh your jumbo braid curls

STEP 1: Prep hair

Start off by prepping your hair with the Dove Oxygen Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner before installing your braids.

STEP 2: Moisturise edges

Moisturise edgesOnce your braids have been completed, don’t forget to moisturise and lay those edges! Keeping your edges nourished and strong is super important when wearing a protective style.

Use a small pea-sized amount of the Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie to smooth your edges down.

STEP 3: Apply mousse to your curls

Apply mousse to jumbo curl braids

Now it’s time to freshen up your curls. Start by applying some of the TRESemmé Volume & Lift Mousse to the curled ends. This will help to give your curls that extra definition and shine.

STEP 4: Wrap around flexi rods

Wrap around flexi rodsNext you’ll need to curl each end around a flexi rod and bend it to keep the hair in place.

STEP 5: Dip in hot water

Dip braid curls into hot waterOnce all ends are curled around a flexi rod, carefully dip them into hot water to further secure the look. Keep your curled ends in the hot water for about 30 seconds and then gently dab them dry (make sure to be safe when doing this step!).

STEP 6: Remove the flexi rods

Remove flexi rodsWhen removing each flexi rod, make sure to be gentle so that your curls stay super defined — and you’re done!

Style your jumbo braid curls

STYLE 1: Alice band

For the first style, all you’ll need is a cute and comfy Alice band (whatever colour or pattern you’re feeling that day). Place it on the top of your head, leaving a few braids loose at front for a softer-cutesy jumbo braid look.

STYLE 1: Folded scarf

For the second style, grab your favourite scarf and fold it into a triangle. Leave two braids in the front of your face and securely tie the scarf at the back of your head to create this sassy look.
