Bob and bangs

The bob and bangs trend we saw sweeping our social channels over the last few months, continues to make headlines into the new year.

Now, this isn’t any bob and bangs combination we are talking about, it’s what’s been dubbed ‘the French girl bob’ that you’ll want to emulate.

Not sure what we mean? Simply ask your hairdresser to cut your hair along the jawline and leave bangs long enough to skim your eyebrows.

Style tip: Ditch the hairdryer and allow your hair to air dry for natural movement.

Topknot

The Fendi runway was awash with high-profile models from Gigi Hadid, Kaia Gerber and Kendall Jenner to name a few, all of whom wore their tresses in the latest it hairstyle. Yes, we are talking about the return of the topknot.

No longer just reserved for bad hair days or gym workouts, the topknot is stacked high on the head and twisted to form a knot-like finish.

Centre part fringe

Fringes have fast become one of the best hairstyles for women this year and we couldn’t be happier. While Bardot and Birkin continue to trickle down from the A-listers, it’s all about centre-part fringes for the new year.

Whether you have short or long strands, you can fake this look without the use of scissors by sweeping your hair forward and then tucking the ends behind your ears.

Natural wet look

One of the new hairstyles for female celebrities last year was wet look strands. If you happened to miss out on that trend, you’ll be pleased to know it’s back and better than before.

Instead of glossy I just stepped out of the shower tresses, this variation is more wearable as a day-to-day look. We suggest sweeping your hair back and backcombing the roots, layering with a strong hold hairspray for a textured finish.

Braids

Braids continue to dominate the hair scene in 2019 and best of all there is a braided hairstyle for everyone.

For a style statement, channel this runway look by combining the wet look trend with a thick braid.

Air-dried

If there’s anything we learnt about hair in 2018 it’s to embrace your natural hair texture. Wash and go styles are this year’s best haircut and the zero-effort required is all the appeal we need to give it a try.

Air-dried styles have been causing quite a conversation recently and it seems the runway has picked up on everyone’s desire to strip back their day to day styling routine for a more natural finish.

We all need a hair hero from time to time and the headscarf is just that for us. Why? Because a headscarf is our secret weapon to never having a bad hair day again – or at least that’s what it’ll look like to everyone else.

And while this isn’t a new hairstyle, it’s definitely a look that never goes out of style. Simple wrap your tresses in a headscarf like the models at Michael Kors and voila, your bad hair day will look fashionably put together.

Statement slides

We saw the ‘90s snap clip trend come back and even the most unexciting bobby pin became the hot hair accessory in 2018. But this year, it’s all about the statement hair slide.

Our top pick is the Versace hair slide which was used to hold back model’s hair just above the ear. The simple accessory instantly updates the simplest of hairstyles and can be the little touch you need to take your look from day to night.
