Because V-Day isn't cancelled.

Now that we’re officially in February, it can only mean one thing: Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. And while it might look a little different this year, why not use the occasion as an excuse to get dressed up and try out a new hairstyle? Whether you’ve got romantic plans or you’re single and celebrating with friends, you can wear your heart in your hair with these romantic Valentine’s hair ideas.

This knotted hairstyle is a simple but chic option that puts a twist on the classic half-updo. To make it look more evening-appropriate, complete the look by adding some soft curls through the lengths of your hair.

If you want to wear your hair up, look no further than this side-parted high ponytail. Made popular by Bella Hadid and Ariana Grande, it’s a TikTok favourite – and the perfect Valentine’s Day inspiration.

Editor’s tip: Give your pony a touch of shine by smoothing a few drops of the VO5 Invisibly Light Oil through your hair while styling. This will help by adding a glossy shine to your strands while also keeping your look super sleek.

’90s Updo

Channel the nineties vibes with this effortless throwback style. Pair a top knot (you can make it as messy or neat as you like) with two face-framing tendrils for a low-key glam look.

Half-Up Bubble Pony

We’ve been seeing bubble ponytails all over Instagram and this half-up version has Valentine’s Day hair written all over it. Styling tip – Pancake your bubble braids by pulling gently on them from either side to fluff them up!

A headband is all you need to take your hair from day to night in a flash. From velvet and faux leather to glittering diamantes, there’s a headband for every outfit and it’ll instantly make you look put together.

This straight and sleek low ponytail is an absolute dream. Adding in the wrapped detail to conceal the hair tie helps to make it look super polished.

Editor’s tip: Hairspray is a must when it comes to keeping your ponytail looking pristine. We’d recommend setting your style with the VO5 Extra Firm Hold Hairspray to protect it from frizz and humidity.

Half-Up Bun

If you’re looking for a way to give your go-to curls a bit of extra pizzazz, this flirty half-up bun is your answer.

Mermaid Waves

For a statement, extra glamorous Valentine’s Day style, try these beautiful mermaid waves. A mermaid crimper will make it really easy to create this look but if you don’t have one, don’t fret. You can create a similar effect by dividing your hair up into sections, braiding each section and then running your straightener over each of the braids to give a crimped effect.

Double Rope Twist

Do you find braids tricky? We’ve got you. This rope twisted hairstyle gives the illusion of a more intricate braided look but it’s as easy as twisting the hair and pinning into place! We won’t tell if you don’t 😉

Low Chignon

As Valentine’s Day hairstyles go, you can’t get chicer than this low chignon. To give it an extra romantic finish, we recommend pulling a few strands loose at the front of your hair for a wispy, face-framing effect.

Editor’s tip: Perfume is a date night essential but have you ever tried a hair perfume? With notes of sweet rose, the VO5 Rose Remix Hair Perfume is the perfect fragrance for Valentine’s – simply spritz on dry hair to add a light, floral scent.

Flower Braid

What could be more Valentine’s Day appropriate than wearing flowers in your hair? You can weave all of your hair into a flower braided updo, but we love how this half-up version looks with wavy lengths.

If ever there was a time to go for all out glamour curls, it’s Valentine’s Day. Take inspiration from this look and add a barrette for an extra special touch.

Milkmaid Braids

Braided updos are always a showstopper and this slightly undone milkmaid braid is giving us all the romantic vibes. While this ‘do looks complicated, it really isn’t – it’s essentially just 2 pigtails pinned up and pancaked to give it that tousled texture.

Don’t believe us? Just follow our milkmaid braid tutorial and you’ll see how easy it actually is.

Editor’s tip: When it comes to braids, ideally hair should be slightly dirty as freshly-washed hair can be too silky soft to hold the style. Don’t panic though, as a sea salt spray like the TONI&GUY Sea Salt Texturising Spray can give your hair a grippier texture, as well as giving more volume to flat hair.

Bow Bun

Hair accessories in general are having a major moment right now but none more so than hair bows. They’re the perfect way to accessorise any of your Valentine’s hairstyles but we particularly like how this high bun helps to show off a statement bow. Black is chic for every day but red is made for Valentine’s Day.

Heart Bun

Buns are great but heart-shaped buns are even better. A style that works for all hair textures, you can check out our sock bun tutorial for your Valentine’s hair inspo. All you need to do is use hair ties to mould your bun donut into a heart shape before wrapping your hair around et voila!

Polished Waves

This next style needs no introduction, as we’re sure you’ll agree. Glamorous waves are every girl’s go-to dinner date hairstyle but for the ultimate Valentine’s hair look, why not make your waves look even more red-carpet worthy with polished Hollywood curls?

Heart-Shaped Half Updo

Show off your braiding prowess with this totally Instagrammable heart-shaped half updo. Simply make two small braids on either side of your head and secure with an elastic. Then take another section of hair from either side, bring it together as if you’re creating a regular half-up half-down and then loop it through the braids to create a heart.
