It’s awards ceremony season! A time when we get to bask in the glow of the A-list stars and gaze green-eyed at all the incredible celebrity ensembles. To kick things off, yesterday saw the 2019 Golden Globes awards ceremony take place in Beverly Hills, California – and boy-oh-boy was it a dazzling mane affair.
With so many inspiring styles floating along the red carpet, we were hard pressed to narrow the selection down, but we got there. Take a look and see which hairstyles we couldn’t take our eyes off..
The best hairstyles at the Golden Globes 2019
1. Lucy Boynton’s tousled bob
One surefire way to own the red carpet is with a showstopping haircut. And, actress Lucy Boynton did just that with this soft, voluminous wavy bob. If you’ve been thinking about getting a cut, this is the sign you’ve been waiting for.
Editor’s tip: When it comes tousled bobs, volume is everything! If you want long-lasting, visibly thicker strands, we suggest you try the TRESemmé Collagen+ Fullness Thickening Balm.
Smooth a small amount into your palm and spread it evenly through damp hair before blow drying, to achieve this airy look.
2. Caitriona Balfe’s ’90s hair
3. Lupita Nyong’o’s natural slicked ‘do
Anyone else wondering when Lupita Nyong’o’s hair will receive a lifetime achievement award? For the ceremony, the star wore her natural hair blown out and swept back, complete with blue tassel detailing at the ends.
4. Lady Gaga’s retro blue updo
All eyes were on leading actress and singer Lady Gaga and we like to think it has everything to do with her new blue hair colour.
Wearing it into a rolled updo, the A Star is Born star made sure her entrance was unforgettable by matching her pastel ‘do to her Valentino Couture gown.
5. Penélope Cruz’ retro quiff
6. Emily Blunt’s fishtail braid
If anyone’s going to convince you how to learn how to master a fishtail plait, it’s Merry Poppins star Emily Blunt. For the ceremony, she worked her mane into this romantic fishtail braid, which we’re positive will be a hit on Valentine’s day.
Editor’s tip: The secret to perfecting your plaits? Using a braid balm, like the TONI&GUY Flexible Hold Braid Balm. This nifty product will give your hair added grip and structure, making it easier to braid and ensuring it stays in place longer.
7. Janelle Monae’s low braided buns

Model of the moment Emily Ratajkowski shocked fans when she stepped out with a brand new bob at the Golden Globes 2017 awards ceremony, this year. But don’t be fooled: this was the workings of a faux bob!
We heard through the grapevine that Emily didn’t commit to chopping off all of her locks, but instead cut in some face-framing layers, and pinned up her longer strands back, to create the effect of a glamorous, wavy bob. Clever, eh?
Lily Collins‘ seriously gorgeous updo is nothing like we’ve ever seen before. Featuring a combination of twists, fishtail and French braids that have been wrapped around each other to create a messy-looking bun, Lily is living proof that the bun will be a hot hairstyle for 2017.
Sarah Jessica Parker
In a truly touching tribute, actress Sarah Jessica Parker honoured the late Carrie Fisher at the Golden Globes 2017 awards ceremony, by opting to style her hair into a Princess Leia-inspired fishtail braid crown.
Featuring a neat centre parting – which is an iconic attribute in the Princess Leia hairstyle – Sarah’s golden locks captured the attention (and hearts!) of the entire audience.
Room actress Brie Larson opted for classic Hollywood waves to complement her glitzy ensemble, proving yet again that this timeless hairdo was made for the red carpet! The star’s blonde ombre hair was styled into a deep side parting, and swept to one side for a truly glamorous look.
It’s safe to say, that Kerry Washington can never do any wrong in the hair department!
This time around, the actress opted for a magical mane transformation, by turning her normally curly afro hair into a straight and sleek look. And with the addition of a few golden balayage highlights, you can bet that this lovely lady stunned us all!
Proving that the top knot is far from dead, American model Karrueche Tran arrived at the Golden Globes 2017 awards ceremony sporting a slick updo, with flicked out ends.
Keeping all of the attention on her polished top knot, Karrueche kept her makeup minimal, opting for a nude lip and a bronze smoky eye. After all, simplicity is often the key to success!
Why do we love it so? Because this jazzed-up pony looked just as good on the red carpet as it did on the runways – so if you’re thinking about rocking the look, you know it’s worth its salt!
American director and producer Issa Rae‘s rope twisted updo definitely stole the show for us at the Golden Globes 2017 awards.
Paired with a high-neck white ballgown, Issa’s intricately twisted ‘do ensured that all of the attention was kept firmly on her. Bravo, Issa, bravo!
We’re guessing that Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams was feeling inspired by the bun cuff hair trend, because her red carpet hairstyle featured a high, messy bun, with a metallic silver cuff accessory. Refined and oh-so-chic, this hair accessory is one of the simplest ways to make any look red carpet-ready!
