Heatless hairstyles for the hot weather
Heat styling hair in hot weather is no joke, and March has been shown to be a hot month in South Africa despite us heading into Autumn. So we need ways to style our hair without heat, but of course we had to go one step further. There are a lot of heatless hairstyles, but so many of them take forever to do. And in hot weather, there’s no way we want to spend 30 minutes to an hour on our hair. So we put together a list of heatless hairstyles that are also super quick and easy to do. Read on for our top heatless looks.
Sleek low bun
One of our favourite go-to heatless hairstyles is the sleek bun. It’s a perfect updo for any hair type and most hair lengths. This look is quick and easy to do, which makes it perfect for hot weather.
Keep this look slicked down with a good quality gel. We recommend the VO5 Wet Look Styling Gel to keep your hair in place and give it that gorgeous wet-look shine.
Heatless curls
If your personal style is a bit more on the romantic side, try out these heatless curls. There are so many ways to get this heatless style, so you can choose what works best for you.
Editor’s tip: Whichever method you use, begin styling when your hair is slightly damp. This will allow your curls to set.
Side plait
Cute and timeless, this heatless hairstyle is also great for a hot day. A loose plait will help keep your hair off your neck and away from your face, and once you get the hang of it, it’s super quick and easy to do.
Editor’s tip: If your hair is a bit too short to get this look, incorporate a scarf into your braid. This way, you can tie the ends of scarf and still get the same effect — but better!
Topknot
What style could be easier and quicker to do than a topknot? This heatless hairstyle is a common favourite for a reason. It’s quick, easy, and you can make it work for you. Slick it down, give it volume, frame your face with loose strands… it’s your choice.
Wash ’n go
If it’s wash day but you don’t have the whole day to do your hair, this heatless hairstyle is for you. This look is great because you just need to wash and go! And best of all, because the weather is so hot, your hair won’t be wet for long — yay for air drying!
All that said, we do recommend one extra step for this look. Ensure your hair looks great wet and once it’s dry by adding a styling product after you wash, and before you go. For our curly and coily haired ladies, we’d definitely recommend the Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie. A little goes a long way with this, and it will smooth and define your curls and coils without weighing them down for this heatless hairstyle.
