Tutorial: Easy Wedding Hair Buns with Twisted Rolls
Sweet, simple and lasts from the ceremony to way past the cocktails.
Before you ask, it’s not a frosted white puff pastry (yeah, sorry!). Wedding hair buns are easy, trendy buns that marry (double sorry!) the fun, photogenic appeal of mini-chignons with the grownup sophistication of a formal updo.
How, pray tell? It’s all in the placement. Modern brides love the look and feel—and let’s face it, all-night wearability—of lower-placed updos, as this frees up room for any hair accessories, while maintaining a softer, feminine aesthetic. Edgier, more directional brides will especially love the look that multiple wedding hair buns offer over a traditional low chignon. Read on to check out how to create these fun wedding hair buns today!
How to Create Wedding Hair Buns with Twisted Rolls
Start with clean hair.
Wedding day beauty? Shampoo, condition and prep are no exceptions. Choose a shampoo that nourishes and replenishes moisture without greasing your hair down like Nexxus New York Salon Care Therappe and Humectress Rebalancing Shampoo and Nexxus New York Salon Care Therappe and Humectress Restoring Conditioner. Make sure to coat your hair with a root-lifting heat protectant like Dove Oxygen Moisture Root Lift Spray before you blowdry your hair.
Section hair.
Divide your hair into three sections, or how many buns you’d like to have. Brush out each section to smoothen and remove any tangles.
Begin twisting each section.
Starting from the middle section and using your fingers to twirl, begin twisting each section around itself so that it resembles a shiny rope.
Twist until you reach the ends.
Continue twisting the hair until the very tips. You may want to smooth down any fraying, cowlicks or frizzies at this point with shine serum or a leave-in conditioner like Nexxus New York Salon Care Hydra Light Leave-In Conditioning Foam.
Make a low chignon.
Coil your first section around itself at your nape, creating a low bun. Feel free to experiment with bun styles: Whether you’re more of a straightforward, one-revolution ballerina bun or a more unconventional, bantu-like snakecoil. The bespoking possibilities are endless!
Secure with a bobby pin.
Affix the bun to your scalp securely with bobby pins. Make sure any seams are hidden as best you can.
Repeat on other sections.
Create similar buns on your other two sections. Note: Making a uniform coil pattern with each bun can result in a fun, continuous-looking twist at the back of your head.
Done!
Secure all buns with bobby pins and mist with some firm-hold hairspray to set the style like Nexxus New York Salon Care Maxximum Finishing Mist. You’re ready to walk down the aisle in style!
