Messy Braided Ponytail at Suave Summer Fridays

Serena Norr | 04 September 2016

A volumious messy ponytail you’ve got to try before the end of Summer.

I can’t believe that Summer is winding down (big ugly cry in the corner), but that doesn’t mean Summer hairstyles are quite over yet. A few weeks ago our editorial team headed to DreamDry in NYC to celebrate Suave Summer Fridays. An afternoon of hairstyling and hair treatments, I couldn’t help but pick something very light and airy with a messy braided ponytail. A look with a lot of volume and an elegant crown braid, I was psyched to try something new for the end of Summer. Read on to discover how this look was created and what products were used.

Getting the Messy Braided Ponytail

The experience started with some much-needed hair washing and conditioning. The stylist at the event used some of the Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion Color Care Shampoo and the Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion Color Care Conditioner.  Formulated with Keralock technology, this system works to cleanse and condition the hair while also helping to make the hair smooth and manageable. Yes, please!

Then, we talked about the messy braided ponytail style and how it would be a tighter braided towards the front followed by a volumious, messy ponytail.

To prep my locks, she applied some serum to my hair and then gave my hair a rough blow-dry. As the hair dried, she then smoothed out the front of my hair (the section that’s the most prone to frizz) with some more serum and started the crown braided process. Have never gotten a crown braid before (I know!), I was surprised by all of the tugging and pulling that was involved to create this signature halo look. When she was finished, she sealed the bottom area with some bobby pins.

For the rest of my hair, she used a curling wand to create loose and texturized pieces. After that desired look was achieved, she made the low bun and used pieces of my hair to wrap around my ponytail, which was also sealed with some bobby pins and locked in place with some of the Suave Professionals Flexible Control Hairspray.

With my hair secure and stylized, I was ready to hit NYC holding onto to the last days of Summer with one stylish-looking messy braided ponytail.
