All we want for Christmas: Zoella doing the “Rachel.”

The 1990s definitely got a warm welcome this past year, as we saw both industry insiders and fashion fans alike referencing this beloved decade with abandon. Known for its musical influences (long bob haircuts for both guys and gals!), sleek minimalism and stark, neutral palette, the 1990s was also the era that one of the most familiar hairstyles, the “Rachel,” came to the fore.

As part of our new—and super-fun!—series, 100 Years of Holiday Hair, we asked one of our favorite YouTube vlogger darlings, the always-on-point Zoella, for her modern take on this iconic layered hairstyle. Click on the video and scroll down below for a step-by-step take on giving a sexy 1990s twist on your long bob haircuts. You’re gonna love this one, gang!

Tutorial: 1990s-Inspired Holiday Style on Long Bob Haircuts

Start with clean, freshly washed hair.

Zoella starts off with washing by her hair with a moisturizing duo that visibly repairs damage (and smells deliciously “coconutty!”), such as Suave Professionals Coconut Oil Infusion Damage Repair Shampoo and Suave Professionals Coconut Oil Infusion Damage Repair Conditioner.

Apply a leave-in product.

Use a small amount of leave-in foam, such as Nexxus New York Salon Care Hydra-Light Leave-In Conditioning Foam, to help protect strands during heat styling. Apply on palms and spread evenly throughout hair, from root to tip.

Blow-dry your hair.

Blow-dry your hair on a medium heat setting until completely dry.

Apply serum.

Zoella uses a serum that “helps to eliminate frizz and seal in shine,” like TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Keratin Infusing Smoothing Serum, on her mid-lengths and ends after blowdrying for an extra shine boost.

Use a flat iron on hair.

For additional sleekness, run a flat iron through hair to eliminate any kinks.

P.S. Work in sections!

Zoella recommends sectioning your hair off before you iron if you have thicker hair for easier straightening.

Spritz on some hairspray.

Hold down any flyaways and keep your sleek long bob haircuts in place with some hairspray. Zoella uses a light misting of TRESemmé TRES Two Extra Hold Hairspray all over her straightened lob.

Add a festive touch.

A shiny metallic accessory, like a gold barrette or clip, adds a fun, party-ready final touch. Perfect for the holidays!

Choose your fave side.

Clip on your accessory on one side.

Strike a pose, ’cause you’re ready to party!

Now you’ve learned to style your long bob haircuts for your holiday party from the 1990s! Give this look a go and be sure to show off your party hairstyle using the hashtag #100YEARSxHOLIDAYHAIR. Be sure to check out our next video for a 2000s curly hairstyle with Paula from The LDN Diaries.
