The South African, Australian-born singer and vlogger has over 4 million subscribers on his YouTube channel, as well as a host of chart-topping hits – including his first EP TRXYE, which reached no. 1 on iTunes in over 55 countries. So, it’s safe to say he’s a pretty big deal.
And as for his style, fans have known him for his brunette curly shag cut, so when he shared a photo of himself sporting bright, platinum blonde strands on Instagram yesterday, understandably some were left wondering whether or not he’d really taken the plunge…
Troye Sivan just debuted platinum blonde hair & his fans aren’t sure what to think
To reveal his new hairdo, the There For You singer shared this arty snap with his 7.4 million Instagram followers, taken by his boyfriend Jacob Bixenman.
In it, you can see that while he’s still sporting his trademark coiled curls, his hue has been totally transformed from a mousy brown to a bright, almost white shade of platinum blonde.
Editor’s tip: If Troye’s hair is giving you a serious case of #curlenvy and you want to try recreating his look for yourself, try using a sea salt spray, such as the Toni&Guy Messy Salt Spray. This will help to give your strands more movement and texture, while also enhancing any natural waves or curls.
If you’re thinking “this isn’t the first time Troye’s gone blonde, right?” we wouldn’t blame you, as over the years there have been several pictures circulated the internet of him rocking blonde hair. These all turned out to be photoshopped in the past, but this time, Troye is determined to prove it’s no joke!
“It’s real y’all!! I promise”, he wrote, taking to Twitter with the selfie above, which he then followed up with yet another tweet saying “Can’t tell if you guys are saying wig bc u think it’s a wig or saying wig bc…..wig”. Okay, okay, Troye, we believe you! Credit: @troyesivan
Now, you might remember that Troye isn’t the first YouTuber to take the plunge and go platinum this year, as gamer PewDiePie also went light back in February. Oh, and who could forget the stir Kayne West and Gary Barlow caused when they opted for lighter hues in 2017. We’re taking bets now for who will be next!
