Must-try man bun and beard combinations.

It’s not enough to just wear a man bun anymore, there’s a new must-try hair trend for men: the man bun and beard combination. Possibly the most perfect pairing since Tom and Jerry and PB and J, the look combines the hipster top knot with sideburns and facial hair for a complete and tied together look.

Whatever your style, there are bun and beard combos smart enough to wear to work, as well as styles for the gym, nights out and more. So, if you’re yet to discover this hair power couple, keep scrolling to see what it’s all about.

1. Messy bun

Don’t ever like your hair to look too ‘done’? If a fully formed bun is too high maintenance, an undone, looped bun makes a cool alternative and it won’t matter if it looks a bit disheveled. Credit: @lasselom

Editor’s tip: Care for your beard (and the skin underneath) with a beard oil. The TONI&GUY Nourishing Premium Beard Oil softens and moisturises your beard hairs and gives a smooth and groomed look.

2. Rugged man bun

Textured tresses work hand in hand with most man bun styles, giving your look a more unique result. Combining this style with grown-out, rugged facial hair will only help to add to the natural, lived-in vibes of the style. Credit: @sasha_manzini

Editor’s tip: To accentuate any natural waves or movement in your hair, prep it with a generous spritz of the TONI&GUY Messy Salt Spray. This will help to add a tousled, surfer style and provide your style with a little light hold, too.

3. Afro puff

What makes man buns so popular is that they work well on all hair types. Afro hair looks great worn up in a puff bun style like this, which will show off your curly hair and keep it out of your face.

A half-up will let you show off your sideburns.

4. Half-up half-down

If you’re not sure if a man bun style will suit you, you can get the best of both worlds with a half-up half-down variation.

This is also a great way for guys with a lot of hair to get on board the man bun and beard trend, as it’ll help to take away some of the thickness.

5. Braided man bun

Braids are a really practical choice for black hair and they can easily and stylishly be worked into a man bun. This is also a good chance to show off any sharp shaved details or shaped sideburns you’ve got going on.

6. Bandana bun

Prone to greasy hair? Don’t worry, it happens to the best of us. Thankfully, bandana styles are making a comeback and as well as looking ultra edgy, they’re also a clever way to conceal oily roots. Also great if you’re growing out your hair but need to wear it up out of your face during the day for work, as it’ll prevent it getting in your way.

If you’re no stranger to the man bun and beard trend, and have already been rocking the hipster look for ages, here’s a great way to shake it up for a fresh new take.

Adding a subtle mini shaved detail above your ear will give the look a whole new lease of life, without having to do anything too drastic to your mane. You know what they say, after all: the devil is in the detail. Credit: @borisofthejungle

8. Slick high bun

Man buns – not to be associated with messy buns. In fact, they don’t have to be messy at all. Just look at this slicked-back top knot style and your eyes will be opened to a whole new way of grooming.

This version is set high on the top of the crown and slicked back with product for a more formal take on this traditionally casual style. Heading to a black tie event? Grab your tux and you’re good to go. Credit: @imnathgriff

Editor’s tip: Digging this ‘do? To recreate this slicked back style, simply take a small amount of the VO5 Gel Wax and warm it between your palms. Evenly work through your hair and, for a super smart finish, pull a comb through your strands before tying your bun.

Finding a new look can be as easy as changing up the position of your man bun, like wearing it lower down on your head in a low bun.
