Which is why we’re here to share our top hair wax styling tips with you, to really help you pack a punch in the hair department. Read on to learn the tricks of the trade…
Styling tips for men’s hair wax
Knead the wax until it’s soft
Hair wax can be quite stiff and hard to apply straight from the tin. When you scoop out a small amount of the wax, try rubbing it in between the tips of your fingers and thumb until it’s warmer and softer. Once it’s clump-free, the hair wax will be ready to smooth through your strands. Trust us, while this may add an extra few seconds onto your morning routine, it’ll make your life easier in the long run, because the hair wax will be a lot easier to apply.
Apply hair wax after you’ve got dressed
This may sound obvious, but be sure to apply your hair wax after you’ve got dressed. Why? Because if you apply it before you put your top on, when you go to get dressed, the product may rub against your clothing, ruining the hairstyle you’ve worked so hard to create – and staining your top!
Achieve a natural look
If you want your hairstyle to look natural, like you’ve just rolled out of bed with model-worthy hair, then you’ve stumbled across the right article. Apply a small amount of men’s hair wax on damp hair for a more natural, casual look.
After you’ve evenly distributed it through your hair, use a hair dryer to help melt the wax into your strands (this will help to lift the roots and create more movement near on the top section of your hair). Once your hair is completely dry, run your fingers through your mane, twisting the strands in different directions as you go to help boost that dishevelled texture and natural-looking volume.
Build up the product
Unlike other hair products, you generally only need a tiny amount of hair wax to reap its full styling benefits. We recommend starting off using a 5p-sized amount of VO5 Extreme Style Groomed Styling Wax (£2.99*) or the TIGI Bed Head for Men Matte Separation Workable Wax (£13.95*) to style your hair, before adding more if you still need more grip and texture. Just be careful not to overdo it, otherwise you may end up seeing the wax residue in your hair.
Modify the amount you use
Modifying the amount of men’s hair wax you use will allow you to create different types of hairstyles. For example, using more wax can create bigger, more dramatic styles that need a stronger staying power, like a mohawk or fauxhawk, while using less wax can create softer styles, like shorter quiffs or comb overs.
