To celebrate Kanye West’s 40th birthday we take a look back at the artist’s greatest hair hits – and boy-oh-boy there are some good ones!

The American rapper, songwriter, record producer, fashion designer and entrepreneur (and breathe), burst onto the music scene in 2004 and has since released 8 albums, launched his own Yeezy clothing line and has high hopes to be president in 2024.

Hair hits: Kanye West’s greatest looks

2006

For any of you who have followed Kayne’s career from the beginning, you’ll remember this style with a cool star pattern shaved into the side of his head. Little did we know at this stage, that Kanye would become a huge fan of shaven styles in the years to come!

2007

Toning it down in 2007, but still adding a twist to his look, Kanye West adds subtle twin stripes to the side of his hair. This is a great idea if you want to keep your ‘do looking sophisticated, yet still want that sense of originality.

2009

Kanye with a teeny weeny afro? Yes it is true! In 2009 the rapper grew out his hair long enough to show off his natural afro curls, lightly fading the sides to create a subtle ‘frohawk.

Many may remember 2009 as the year Kanye interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech at the VMAs, but we still can’t overlook this fantastic aztec-inspired print he choose to cover his whole head with.

2014

We did warn you about Kanye’s obsession with printed designs and all arrows point (pun intended) to this being one of our favourite looks for the star.

2016

It might be hard to look anywhere but in Kanye’s contact-lens blue eyes, but tear yourself away from the piercing gaze for just a moment and you’ll notice this staple shaven look as one of his hair hits. Keeping his ‘do fresh, Kanye has gone for a one level shaved style, with a perfectly lined-up shape.

2017

Bringing us to 2017 is this beauty. Kanye West with blonde hair may have seemed like an impossible image, but after looking through his hair hits it’s clear to see he is not one to shy away from change – we say bravo to this bleach-blonde buzzcut. Stay tuned to see what’s next for Mr West!
