Hemp and CBD beauty products have risen hugely in popularity in the last year, but there’s still a lot of confusion around them. Will they make you high? Are they even legal? Keep reading to find out what makes hemp seed oil different to CBD, the benefits of hemp for your hair and which hemp hair products to try.

What’s the Difference Between Hemp Oil and CBD?

CBD oil and hemp oil (also known as hemp seed oil) both come from the cannabis plant but are very different in their uses and benefits. Hemp seed oil is produced by cold pressing the seeds of the plant, while CBD oil is made from the whole plant, including the flowers and leaves. CBD has been traditionally used for wellness and medicinal purposes, while hemp oil is associated more with topical beauty and skincare remedies.

Hemp seed oil does not contain any cannabinoids like THC, which is the chemical responsible for causing the psychoactive effects (aka the ‘high’) associated with cannabis.

Dilute a few drops of oil into a bowl of warm water and apply the mixture to wet hair. Leave it to works its magic for half an hour, then rinse thoroughly and shampoo and condition as normal.

Editor’s Tip: To help the oil penetrate deeper into the hair, try wrapping your hair in a warm towel while the treatment is on.

As a Scalp Treatment

Suffer with a dry or itchy scalp? Massage a few drops of the oil into your scalp and leave it in overnight. When you wash your hair the next morning, your scalp will feel moisturised and soothed, but won’t look oily or greasy.
