New York Fashion Week is in full swing and our NY-based senior beauty editor, Eunice Lucero, recently attended the Rebecca Minkoff SS17 show to get the lowdown on the hottest runway hairstyles. In fact, she went one step further and interviewed TRESemmé lead stylist, Jeanie Syfu, on the “Gypsetters” inspired wavy hair look she was creating, plus how you guys can achieve it at home!
If you want to get in on the backstage buzz, then read on to learn how you can recreate this effortlessly glam look from the spring/summer 2017 runway for yourself.
Rebecca Minkoff SS17: “Gypsetters” hair trend
How would you describe the look today?
The overall look is very effortless: the hair moves, there’s a softness and easiness to it. The inspiration was called ‘gypsetters’, which is basically [a look inspired by] travelling and collecting things along the way to develop your own look and style. – Jeanie Syfu.
Rebecca Minkoff’s style of clothing is iconic for its “downtown romantic” aesthetic. Maintaining this theme, her SS17 collection was also free-flowing and oh-so chic. To tie the whole look together, Jeanie created a soft, romantic hairstyle that, if you ask us, had boho-vibes at heart.
How did you achieve it?
“We created the look using the TRESemmé Perfectly (un)Done Wave Creating Sea Foam (£5.50*). We layered it through, starting at the nape, moving all the way up. Then we used a wide-tooth comb to make sure it was evenly distributed, before using a blowdryer and a flat brush to create really good blow outs. After we did a blow out, we used a one and a quarter inch curling iron and curled sections horizontally, instead of vertically, to create a nice soft S-wave shape.” – Jeanie.
Do you have any tips for our readers recreating this look at home?
1. “Work on second day hair, because it’s less slippery, and the texture is already there.”
2. “Make sure that you brush your hair before you curl it. Brushing it is the most important thing because otherwise it’s not gonna have that soft texture.”
3. “Ensure that your curling iron is large and not small, because the smaller the iron, the more your curls will look like ringlets. If you use a one and a quarter inch wide, or one and a half wide curling tong, you’re getting more of a soft wave, which looks really natural.” – Jeanie.
If you’re going to attempt this runway style yourself, we suggest using the TRESemmé Perfectly (un)Done Ultra Brushable Hairspray (£5.50*) and the Toni&Guy Glamour Jumbo Tong to help create your look.
