The ’40s front twist

Bold and high-impact, this vintage hairstyle can be done in less than 5 minutes! With a dramatic, voluminous wave at the front, this look immediately gives a defining touch to your personal style. To create it, gather up a section of hair from the top of your head, and pull it backwards. Then twist the section up, before pushing it down a little to create a small pouf, and pin it in place. You can leave the rest of your hair down, or simply gather it up, and secure it in a bun at the nape of your neck. Just add a red lipstick, and you’re good to go!

The Gibson Girl bun

A really iconic ‘do, this easy vintage hairstyle looks perfect when paired with a retro tea dress, and just as stylish with a fresh, modern outfit. Best of all, it’s quick to create, and doesn’t require any complicated steps. Flip your hair down, and put it into a high ponytail, secured in place at the crown of your head. Slide your hairband back a little, and push the pony down to create a wide, poufy shape. Then twist the rest of the ponytail into a bun, and pin it in place. Finish with some strong-hold hairspray, like the TRESemmé Ultimate Hold Hairspray (500ml, £4.99*) to set the voluminous look.

Sported by Veronica Lake, this vintage look is easy to create, and is the perfect hairstyle to bring a touch of glamour to a special occasion. To get the style, start by washing and blow-drying your hair to keep it smooth. Then comb it into a deep side parting, before wrapping it around large heated rollers to create the waves. Once the rollers are cold, remove them gently, and work a small amount of serum, like the VO5 Smoothly Does It Heat Protect Serum (£3.99*) through your curls to help create extra definition.

In love with the gorgeous looks from your favourite period drama? Then this elegant yet easy vintage hairstyle is for you! To get this classic look, divide your hair into 3 sections at the back of your head, and secure them in place with small hairbands. Take your mini ponytails, and roll them up towards your head one by one, before securing them with bobby pins. Once all the sections are rolled up, bring the rolls closer to each other to create a seamless look, and pin them together. You can simply leave it like this, or, for a more glammed-up ’20s look, add a sparkly bejewelled hairband across your forehead.

See? We told you: these easy vintage hairstyles are totally foolproof!
