A summer party-perfect messy bun in 7 steps
Prep your hair.
Start by gently combing or brushing your hair to remove any knots or tangles, before using a heat protection spray to prep it for heated styling. The VO5 Smoothly Does It Heat Protect Spray (£3.99*) helps to guard your hair against excessive use of heat, and fights frizz and flyaways, leaving behind a sleeker and healthier-looking mane.
Divide your hair.
Divide your hair horizontally from your temples, ensuring that the bottom section is larger than the top. Clip the top section out of the way for now.
Curl your hair.
Start curling the bottom section of your hair using the Toni&Guy Glamour Jumbo Tong. Take 1-2 inches of hair and gently wrap it around the barrel to create a loose wave. Repeat this process until you’ve completed the entire section.
Twist and wrap.
After you’ve curled the bottom section of your tresses, gather it into a ponytail and gently twist the hair, wrapping it around itself to create your messy bun. Use some bobby pins to secure it in place.
Curl the front of your hair.
Now, let down the top section you pinned away earlier and create a side parting. Then, take 1-2 inches of hair and curl it using curling tongs, starting approximately mid-way down the hair shaft, or just below your temples.
Sweep and pin.
Once you’ve curled all your hair at the front, gently sweep it back and carefully pin in place, covering your ear and concealing the base of your messy bun. Use a few bobby pins to discreetly secure your tresses in place.
