With festival season officially in full swing, it’s about time you started thinking about your festival beauty prep! With so much to plan, we thought we’d give you a helping hand by sharing one of our favourite festival hairstyles with you – and it’s pretty fab if we do say so ourselves!

Now, you might have heard of the half-up bun (AKA the ‘hun’) already, as it’s a favourite of stars like Ariana Grande and Margot Robbie. However, did you know that it’s also the perfect way to style medium-long length hair for a casually-chic look? Yep, it’s true!

As part of our aim to #BeatHairBoredom in partnership with E!, we’ve enlisted the help of one our fave beauty vloggers, Freddy My Love, to create an easy-to-follow style guide, so you can achieve the half-up bun at home. Now go get your hun on, hun!

Half-up bun tutorial with Freddy My Love

1

Apply mousse.

This hairstyle calls for voluminous locks, so start the look by running a tennis ball-sized amount of the VO5 Volume Mousse through damp hair. This will help to give your mane bounce and lift, for a fuller look.

2

Blow dry your hair.

Use your hairdryer to loosely blow dry your hair, using your fingers to promote lift from the roots.

3

Create loose waves.

Then, to create beachy waves like Freddy’s, take small sections of hair (around 1-2 inches thick) and wrap them around a curling wand, holding for a few seconds before releasing the curl.

4

Tie your hair.

Once you’ve curled all of your strands, section the top of your hair, from temple height on either side of your head, in a horseshoe shape.

Now pull this upper section into a high ponytail and secure it with a hairband.

5

Create a bun.

It’s time to twist! Transform your high ponytail into a high bun by twisting it around on itself at the base and pinning it into place with bobby pins.

Final look.

Last but not least, use your fingers to gently comb through your waves to loosen the lengths and leave you with a softer, more natural-looking finish.

And there you have it, the ultimate festival-friendly style!
