While it’s no secret that sleek hairstyles are highly sought after, those working with natural hair can find it hard to achieve this style in their coily locks. Luckily, our resident beauty vlogger and favourite naturalista Breanna (AKA Mini Marley) has found a way to rock the trend. As part of our Style It On series she’s created a super slick, low puff that we’re sure you’re going to love!
Surprisingly easy to master, it’s the perfect way to create a smooth and polished style on afro locks – all without having to reach for the straighteners! How to create the perfect low puff on natural hair
Wash your hair.
This duo is formualed to nourish the hair, leaving it feeling smooth, tangle-free and ready for styling – ideal for this sleek style!
Create your puff.
After gently drying your hair, use a natural bristle brush to smooth your strands back into a low puff at the nape of your neck. Loosely secure it in place with a hair tie.
Now spritz a small amount of the the VO5 Mega Hold Gel Spray into your hands and run it through the top of your mane. This will help to keep any flyaway hairs in check.
Secure your puff.
Now that your puff is frizz-free and looking sleek, use a stronger hair tie to tightly fix your puff in place. Mini Marley recommends using an elastic headband for this step as they’re more durable than regular hair ties!
Tame your baby hairs.
Next, take the VO5 Gel Spray you used earlier and use it to smooth down any baby hairs around your hairline. Mini Marley is a fan of utilising an unused toothbrush to do this, but a fine-toothed comb works just as well.
Apply an oil.
Glossiness is key for this look, so to achieve a mirror-like shine, rub a few drops of the Dove Pure Care Dry Oil Nourishing Treatment between your palms and smooth it through your hair. This will also help to define and accentuate your natural wavy texture.
And just like that, your low puff is complete! Slick enough for a glam night out, yet quick enough to do everyday. The styling possibilities really are endless!
