’90s Space Buns
1. Create a zigzag parting.
Ready to learn how to do space buns? Start by taking a comb and using it to create a zig-zag parting from the front of your hair right down to the nape of your neck.
2. Create 2 high ponytails.
Tie your hair into 2 high ponytails, securing them with a thin hair tie.
Editor’s tip: Remember to leave some hair loose around your face, as this will give you a more face-flattering finish.
3. Create a small braid in each ponytail.
To give your space buns a more unique, textured look, take a small section of hair from the underneath of one of your ponytails. Braid this section into a regular 3-strand braid right down to the ends – don’t worry about securing it, as we’ll do this later.
4. Plump up the volume.
Spritz your strands with the TRESemmé Freeze Hold Hairspray and then use your hands to gently tease your hair back towards the roots, scrunching the product into the hair. This will give your space buns the extra hold and sass they need!
5. Wrap your hair into space buns.
Wrap each ponytail around on itself to form a bun shape, making sure to leave the braided section of your hair free for now. Use bobby pins to secure your buns into your desired position.
6. Wrap the plaits around the buns.
Wrap your braids around your newly-formed buns, and use both bobby pins and clear hair elastics to make sure your look stays put.
7. Set your style.
To help your funky space buns last well into the night, give them a good allover spritz with hairspray.
8. Final look.
And there you have it, fabulous party-worthy space buns in a matter of minutes!
To really take your look to the next level, though, why not try curling or crimping the front pieces of your hair for a truly ’90s-inspired look?!
Low Space Buns
1. Divide Your Hair Into Two Sections.
Using a comb or your fingers, equally divide your hair (down the middle) into 2 equal sections. Then using hairbands, secure each section into two low ponytails.
2. Tease and Twist Your Pigtail.
Now it’s time for the fun part! Take your first ponytail and loosely twist it all the way down to the end of your hair.
3. Create a Bun.
After you’ve teased and twisted your first ponytail, wrap your hair around the base of the ponytail, and keep on wrapping till you’ve created a bun shape.
Once you’ve got a shape you like, secure it with as many bobby pins as needed to hold the look in place.
4. Create Your Second Bun.
Tease and twist your second pigtail to create your second bun.
5. And There You Have It!
Dazzling double low buns that’ll steal the spotlight at your next party!
Classic Half-Up, Half-Down Space Buns
If you’re new to the world of styling, we’ve got you. This hairstyle is a simpler version of N1kk1sSecr3t’s braided ‘do and can be created with straight, wavy or curly hair.
So first off, decide how you want your finished style to look and then either straighten or curl your mane to prep it or embrace your natural texture – you do you!
How to create half space buns:
1. Using a comb, divide your hair down the centre.
2. Working on one side of your hair at a time, gather a 3 to 4 inch-wide portion of hair from near the front into a half-up, half-down high ponytail and secure it with a clear elastic. This pony should sit in the middle of the top of your head.
3. Spray your ponytails with the TRESemmé Extra Hold Hairspray and then gently tease your hair to create more body and volume.
4. Working on one ponytail at a time, take the tail and wrap it around the base to create a space bun. Secure this in place with some bobby pins.
5. To help set your half space buns in place, give them a spritz with the TRESemmé Ultimate Shine Hold Hairspray. Now, go forth and show off your funky buns!
