Forget the marching band, these gorgeous homecoming hairstyles will make your hair the mane attraction

The most exciting event in the school calendar is almost here, but have you thought about your homecoming hairstyles yet?

Homecoming is perhaps the biggest and most exciting time for any young person during their school years. Unsure what a homecoming is? It’s a bit like a school prom, just on a grander scale. And just like prom, you’ll be in need of some inspiring homecoming hairstyles to mark the occasion – which is where we come in!

A week full of celebrations, including sports games, pep rallies, dances and, of course, the crowning of the homecoming king or queen, it’s one of the best excuses (if you ever needed one) to get glammed up. So while we can’t help you decide on which of your many admirers to take to homecoming, we can certainly make sure your hair is in the running to be coronated.

Hairstyles for homecoming that will get you crowned

1. Half-up braids

Half-up, half-down hairstyles are one of the most picture-perfect looks for any occasion. Wear yours with braids, a rope twist or a strip of ribbon, and add waves to the lengths for a more softer and romantic finish. Credit: @tay_hair_styles

2. Bouffant pony

Thought ponytails were only for the gym? Then think again. Pumped up ponytails make for a great homecoming hair look and, best of all, it takes a matter of minutes to create!

Simply use a hair volumising product to add body and try backcombing your tresses at the crown for a bouffant finish even Brigitte Bardot would be impressed by. Finish the look by adding soft waves through the lengths. Credit: @jodycallanhair

Editor’s tip: Create body and fullness from root to tip by using the TONI&GUY 3D Volumiser Spray. Simply mist onto towel-dried hair focusing on roots before blow-drying. For an added boost, spritz onto dry hair while styling.

3. Crown braids

When it comes to homecoming hair, you can’t go wrong with a braided ‘do.

Make an impact on all your friends with a super cute crown braid and don’t forget to keep soft wispy pieces of hair loose for an undone finish. Credit: @braidedlifestyle

4. Sleek twisted bun

Looking for a more polished updo for homecoming? Then why not try a smooth and sleek twisted bun? It’s chic and elegant with just the right amount of sophistication, plus it will look amazing on both longer and slightly shorter hair lengths. Credit:  @michelle.jens

Editor’s tip: Build shine and smoothness from root to tip using the VO5 Sleek Creation Hairspray. Offering an all-day, reworkable hold, this lightweight formula is a hair wardrobe staple.

5. Wavy blowout

Can you think of a better style to wear with your homecoming crown? No, us neither.

Worn by everyone from Victoria’s Secret models, royalty (Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle, we’re looking at you) and every Miss America winner we can think of, a wavy blowout is hair goals for life. Credit: @hair_by_kbouch

6. Voluminous, undone chignon

A chignon is one of our fave styles for formal occasions, simply because they’re so versatile! From regal and polished to textured and undone, chignon hairstyles aren’t considered a timeless hairstyle for no reason. Credit: @jodycallanhair

7. High bun

Prim and proper, this sky-high bun is the definition of fancy. Best worn on those with longer hair, we suggest adding a hair donut for a perfectly-rounded finish. Then use a hairspray to tame flyaways and brush through to get a smooth, high-shine finish. Credit: @styledbymeghanveve

Editor’s tip: To help tame flyaways and add shine, we recommend adding the VO5 Tame & Shine Spray to your kit.

This ultra-light and non-sticky formula comes with heat defence, helping to protect hair from heated styling tools all while giving a glossy, silky finish.
